  1. Welcome to Class

  2. General things you need to know about The clavicle…. • Cassette Size: 10 x 12 Crosswise • Measures 14 • Shield: On Lap! • Put marker in light field. • Deep breathe and hold

  3. TheViews….. • AP • AP Axial • Can be done erect or supine Woo hoo! Not to many!!!

  4. The AP… • Placement: Remove all metallic objects. • Place patient with back against the IR. • Patient looking straight so not to impose chin. • Center clavicle to center of IR. • CentralRay: Perpendicular to mid- clavicle • 40 SID

  5. The Ap… Contd • Seen on Radiograph: • Theentire clavicle including both the ac joint and the sc joint. • The mid-clavicle will superimpose the superior scapula angle. • Medial clavicle will be next to the vertebral column. • Lateral end aligns with the acromion.

  6. The AP axial view  • Placement: Same as the AP. No movement of Patient. • CentralRay: Perpendicular to mid-clavicle • Angle 15- 30 Degrees cephalad.

  7. The AP axial view..  contd. • Seen on Radiograph: • entire clavicle including both joints. • The medial end superimposes the first and second rib. • The lateral end is superior to acromion • No imposition of superior scapula angle • Clavicle bows slightly upward. • Most of the clavicle will be free of imposition.

  8. the next view scapula

  9. General things you need to know about The scapula…. • Cassette Size: 10 x 12 lengthwise • Shield: On Lap! • Put marker in light field. • Breathing technique for AP

  10. TheViews….. • AP • lateral • Can be done erect or supine Woo hoo! Not to many!!!

  11. The AP… • Placement: Remove all metallic objects. • Place patient with back against the IR. • Center scapula to center of IR. • IR should be 2 inches above shoulder and 2 inches medial form rib boarder. • Abduct arm 90 degrees. • Supinate the hand (moves scapula lateral to clear more thoracic structures)

  12. Central Ray • Perpendicular to the mid-scapula area • 2 inches below the coracoid process or level of axilla and 2 inches medially. • 40 SID

  13. The Ap… Contd • Seen on Radiograph: • Theentire scapula • The lateral portion of scapula free from imposition. • Medial portion will be seen through the thoracic structures.

  14. The Lateral • 10 x 12 lengthwise • Hold breathe • Measures 15

  15. The Lateral • Placement: face patient toward cassette in and anterior oblique position with affected shoulder against the IR • Have patient reach across the chest and grab opposite shoulder. (body) less rotation • Have patient drop arm and place behind back. ( acromion and coracoid) • Feel scapula and rotate scapula until a true lateral position is reached. About 30-45degree for scapula and 45-60 for patient.

  16. The lateral… Contd • Seen on Radiograph: • Theentire scapula in a true lateral position • The vertebral and lateral borders of body superimposed. • Body free of imposition by ribs and in profile • The scapula should form a Y. • The acromion and coracoid as the arms and the scapula body as the leg.

  17. Now, it's time.. to Pratice
