  2. Did you know? The San Antonio small business community represents a large and diverse industry population. Small businesses comprise 94% of the 26,842 employer firms located within San Antonio. UTSA spent $55 million last year on everything from concrete to office supplies. $16.5 million was spent with HUBs (30%) UTSA ranked 16 among all state agencies for the amount of $ spent with HUBs.

Why is it important to UTSA? • We are required to make a good faith effort to utilize minority businesses for our procurement opportunities. • As a minority serving institution of higher learning, we demonstrate our believe in the program with participation. • A portion of the university’s money comes from federal grants. These grants require us to assist small businesses in obtaining a fair share of the Federal Government contracts.

Improvement in the HUB Program • Created “Purchasing from HUBs” Class – AM 554 • Expanded HUB Vendor Fairs • 1604 Campus – March 25, 2009 from 9-3 p.m. • Downtown Campus – March 31, 2009 from 9-12 p.m. • Created HUB Vendor Spreadsheet • Improved categories in HUB Recognition Event (Nov. 09’) • Created HUB Newsletter • Partnered with agencies to get more HUBs introduced to the purchasing process. • Asked for more involvement from Staff Coordinating Group.

  6. How can I help the HUB Program? Encourage staff members to attend “Purchasing from HUB’s Class” Read HUB/Procard Newsletter Talk with Staff Coordinating User Group Members about new ideas Ask for referrals to HUB vendors

  7. Annual HUB Recognition (November 2009) Staff will be recognized for their efforts in supporting the HUB Program. Here are some of the award categories: HUB Small Dollar Employee Advocates HUB Department Advocates Most Improved in HUB Expenditures HUB Employee Advocate of the Year Outstanding Staff Coordinating Group Member
