OP Art is…. A style of art popularized during the 1960s. Made up of Optical Illusion(s) which appear to be moving or breathing. Victor Vasarely is often considered the pioneer of Op Art. ( See Zebra , 1938.) Artist Bridget Riley continues to make Op art pieces today. Zebra , 1938.

Key Characteristics of OP art • Because of its mathematical nature it is almost always non-representational. • The elements (Line, shape and form)are used to achieve maximum effect. • The critical methods used are perspective and careful use of color. • In Op Art, positive and negative spaces are of equal importance.
