  2. History of Paris Paris was founded around the 3rd century B.C. by a tribe of Celtic Gauls. Military clashes ended between the Gauls and Romans and the legions of Julius Caesar took control of the territory in 52 B.C. Christianity came there in the 2nd century A.D. and after the invasion of the tribe of Franks in the 5th century B.C., Roman rule ended.   3. Paris is the capital of France. It is situated in the North of central France, in the Ile-de-France on the banks of the River Seine and it is the most important economic and cultural center. Besides, Paris has a great international significance, because there are the headquarters of UNESCO, OECD and the International Chamber of Commerce.

  6. The Triumphal Arch Height is of 49,51 m, width is of 44,82 m, height of the arch is of 29,19 m. It was built in 1806—1836 by Napoleon's order by architect Jean Shalgrenom. It is decorated with four sculptural groups: "Marseillaise" of sculptor Rud (on the right) and «Triumph of 1810» sculptor Korto; from an avenue de la Grand-Arme — "Resistance" (on the right) and "The World" of sculptor Ettex. On the arch walls names of 128 battles won by the republican and imperial army, and also names of 558 French military leaders are engraved. The arch is surrounded by 100 granite curbstones (in honor of "hundred days» of Napoleon’s reign), connected by cast-iron chains.

  11. The Louvre The Louvre is one of the largest art museums in the world (the world's third floor space: 160,106 square meters). The museum is located in the heart of Paris, on the right bank of the Seine, the Rue de Rivoli in the 1st arrondissement. The museum building is the old royal palace. Equestrian Statue of Louis XIV represents the starting point of the so-called historical axis of Paris.

  12. The Sorbonne The history of the Sorbonne begins in 1215, when the Paris University was founded, when several church schools united and formed one of the first universities in Europe. Originally there were 4 faculties: free arts, canon law, medicine and theology. In the XIII century the University became one of the biggest in Europe. Afterthe strike in 1229 — 1231 the University got the right of local autonomy, submitting to the Pope.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris (French: Basilique du SacréCœur, literally - Heart of Christ) — is a catholic temple in Paris, built between 1876and 1910 by the project of Paul Abadie in Roman-Byzantine style. It is situated at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point of the city (130 meters).

Père Lachaise Cemetery Père Lachaise Cemetery (French - Père Lachaise, literally «Father Lashaise») — is the largest cemetery in Paris, one of the most famous burial places in Paris, one of the most famous burial places in the world. It is situated in the east of the city in the 20th arrondissement. The official name is Eastern Cemetery (French - Cimetière de l'Est). It is the biggest green oasis of the French capital and one of the biggest museums of gravestone sculpture outdoors.
