  1. “Fostering Modesty in Our Daily Lives”Hadrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh’ s Address to Lajna at Jalsa Salana USA, June 29, 1991 Lajna LA East

  2. Zeenat • Lajna should be defensive & offensive against the challenges faced today • “Outgoing, penetrating, reaching the hearts of people, and leaving them defenseless against our charms.”

  3. Zeenat • illa ma zahara minha “Except those, which though not displayed rise to the surface by themselves like a glow or fragrance, those which are irrepressible.” [Holy Quran 24:32]

  4. Zeenat • Zeenat is the adornment of the body but has the connotation of enhancing spiritual loveliness • The fragrance of flowers in an enclosed garden can be smelt through the air, even if they can not be seen

  5. Zeenat • Zeenat is defined as beauty & prostration before Allah “Take your Zeenat into every Mosque you go to or to every place of prostration to God” [Holy Quran 7:32]

  6. Why does Allah require us to take along our adornments when we go to the Mosque or prostrate to Him at any other place?

  7. Because of Love!

  8. Taqwa and Zeenat • Love produces fear and doubts • Taqwa means fearing the loss of Allah’s love • Zeenat means Taqwa or “fear of Allah” • If we adorn ourselves with Zeenat, our physical attraction is covered, but the Taqwa in us will exude forth without any effort

  9. Examples of Messengers of Allah • Messengers of Allah were humble, unknown to the world • Spread Allah’s message as they were godly and reflected Allah’s attributes • The Zeenat seen in the Messengers and in godly people is what leads them to Allah

  10. Zeenat in the Service of Islam • Have an attitude of humility, kindness • Close our eyes to the weaknesses of others • Don’t look down upon others • Seek forgiveness • Have compassion for the unfortunate • Spread your happiness

  11. Defend Islam • Defend Islam with words backed by deeds • Our actions will get people interested • Allah’s nearness will be reflected in the attributes we try to acquire • Let others see the benefits you have obtained through nearness to Allah

  12. Zeenat in our Children • Parents must protect themselves first with the garment of Taqwa • Parents must be consistent & true in their actions and admonishments • Children can see through their true intentions • Beauty comes from being godly; develop this beauty in yourself & your children

  13. Mother of Chaudry Zafrullah Khan Sahib • Even simple, uneducated mothers possess an aura of godliness • Enlightenment of Taqwa made her wise • Viceroy of India asked whether an empire was more difficult to manage than a household. She replied …you need Allah’s favor to manage either of them!

  14. Fostering Modesty in Our Youth • Do not talk to children from ivory towers of command & authority. They will not respect you & wait to be liberated of you! • Liberate yourself the soft way by submitting to Allah with love • If you are godly, your child will hold you in great esteem & fear losing your love • Allow freedom to them with solid limits they must not cross • Wrap them with the garment of Taqwa so they are not left out in the chilling society of materialism without adequate protective gear

  15. Dangers of Abandoning Modesty • Gradually leads to the materialistic pursuit of vain pleasures • Deep, rewarding and fulfilling spiritual desires will vanish • Will distract from the right path, resulting in loss of the fragrance of Zeenat • Will attract unwanted problems and attention

  16. Zeenat - Summary • Turn to Allah & be armed with the Zeenat of Taqwa • You will be liberated of all evils and have the power to liberate others • You will have fear of Allah & people will have a similar fear of losing your favors • Foster modesty in daily lives
