  1. N.O. C.U.R.E By: Mbonisi Zikhali

  2. Title The title of our poem is N.O. C.U.R.E. We predict that this poem will be about how so many people are dying from the AIDS virus and how there is no cure.

  3. Paraphrase The speaker wonders the impossible, like who waits for the sun to rise at the stroke of midnight, the bread to bake when they have no wheat, for tomorrow to come, to endure the question that has no answer. Then he comments that it is only AIDS that does these things.

  4. Connotation He is saying that even though these things are impossible for life to accomplish, a cure for AIDS is like these things. A cure is like these things because it doesn’t exist and justs not happen.

  5. Attitude The author is discouraged because there is no cure for AIDS. His disappointment shows through a little bit in his lack of excitement in his tone. Throughout the poem there is no exclamation points or question marks. Most people will have no difference in tone when they are disappointed.

  6. Shifts In the beginning of the poem, the speaker is talking about impossible tasks and things that just cannot be done. But towards the end, he shifts to giving these impossibilities a name: AIDS. He also gives it a personality, one of a backwards order and lasting forever with no way out.

  7. Title The title, once again, is N.O. C.U.R.E. We believe it still has the same meaning, one saying that people are dying of AIDS and there is no cure. But now he is also saying that AIDS not only kills people, but it can also affect the order of the world even after it is gone.

  8. Theme The speaker is saying that AIDS does not make sense and is disrupting everything’s order. He’s also saying that because everyone is dying, there is no one left take care of the everyday actions.
