  5. Philosophy Greeks had a lot of famous Philosophers who are installed their knowledge into our critical thinking today. Starting off with Socrates who questioned peoples knowledge by saying he knew nothing. Examining those who believed they have knowledge. He eventually was tried for corruption of youth and sent to death. Plato was one of Socrates pupils was another great philosopher. He expanded knowledge in philosophy into Dialectic, ethics and physics. He made a school called the Academy. Aristotle was another great philosopher. Aristotle used facts and observations in his philosophy to explain things.

  6. Greek Education: Boys • It was different amongst the city-states. If they were more of a militant city-state, the boys would be training by the age of 7. They were brutal with not feeding the boys to having the boys commit crimes against the city-state to survive. Others were beaten to a chiseled body. Once they were 18, they were part of the army. They were also taught music and art because it served military purposes. Others who were not in the army were taught the basic education like math and language.

  7. Greek Education: Girls • The women back then were not given as much education. They were also beaten and given hard training not to go to war, but to become a strong mother and a strong wife. Some women were given normal education. Most of the women had to learn by themselves at home especially literacy. Women were taught at an early age how to wrestle and dance. The main goal was to be a strong wife and produce babies. If they could not they would be downgraded into middle or lower class.

  8. Toga (Clothing & Fashion) • They wore a tunic that was often very loose. Plain was the main choice of color for the cloth. Sandals were the choice of the shoes because it was easy to make. The women were often seen wearing jewelry like earrings and bracelets. Women also used makeup because it showed prestige and wealth. Most of the men had short hair and long beards.

  9. Olympics • The very first games were located in the city-state of Olympia. They had a small amount of events but all of them were dedicated to the Gods. Some of these events include Wrestling, Running, Chariot Races, Throwing, and Boxing. Wrestling and boxing were often put together called Pankration. Some of the running includes short sprints and long distance, Throwing includes Discus and Javelin. Chariot Races were not only races but for survival because people would put weapons on their chariots to hinder the others.

  10. Ancient Greek Plays and Dramas Most plays and dramas were held during festivals for Gods like Dinoyus. Some plays were all done by only one person. Most plays and dramas were tragedy's. most of these plays were based off mythology and the Gods. The most famous writers were Sophocles, Euripides, and Aeschylus. Some of their tragedies are still told today.

  11. Concerts Most of the concerts were not as popular as the plays. Most of the concerts' music was incomplete and broken up. The Greeks were however familiar with some instruments we still use today. Those instruments being the lyre and other string instruments. Music was often correlated in the education.
