Transition • Encarta Dictionary - tran·si·tion (tran zish n) • Process of change • a process or period in which something undergoes a change and passes from one state, stage, form, or activity to another • Cause to Change • to undergo a change of status or condition, or cause somebody or something to undergo a change

  5. What’s the BIG Deal? • Parents are very nervous about how their child will do SOCIALLY • Will they cry? • Will they get along with the other children? • What if they don’t like school? • What if they don’t like the teacher?

  6. What’s the BIG Deal? cont • Parents are very worried about how their child will do EDUCATIONALLY • Will they be able to learn at the same pace? • Will they start out behind? • What if they can’t learn? • What if they lag behind?

  7. What’s the BIG Deal? cont • Parents are worried about how THEY will do: • What if I cry? • What if I don’t like the teacher? • What if the teacher doesn’t like ME? • What if I don’t know any of the other PARENTS?

  8. Explain What Will Happen • Talk to the parents about how the transition will occur • Answer any questions • Arrange for a tour of the facility • Allow the students to accompany the parents on the tour

  9. Make a Home Visit • Observe the interactions in the home • See the educational activities available in the home • Evaluate the learning environment in the home, books, games, letters, etc • Answer questions
