(3)【问】请谈谈He then fills stockings with Christmas presents．一句中fill．．．with．．．这一短语的具体用法好吗？ 【答】好的。fill．．．with意为“用……充满／装满……”，表示动作。再如： You may fill this bottle with water．你可以把这个瓶子装满水。 如果表示被动意义则要用be filled with（被动结构，意为“被……装满……”，表示状态），还可以表示为be full of（意为“装满……”，full是fill的形容词形式，此结构也表示状态）。例如： 开头问题中的一句话，如改成被动结构则是：Stockings are filled with Christmas presents．（＝Stockings are full of Christmas presents．）

(4)【问】如何理解Father Christmas is based on a real person in history．一句？ 【答】本句中有一个重要短语be based on，意为“基于……，以……作根据”。in hisstory是介词短语，做a real person的定语。因此整个句子可以译为：圣诞老人是基于历史上的一个真实人物。be based on的用法我们可以再来看两个例子： Who is this story based on？这个故事的原型是谁？ This novel is based on the lives of famous people．这部小说是根据名人的生平写成的。 （2）singing是现在分词，singing Christmas songs是现在分词短语作状语，表示主语（friends）正在进行的另一动作，它与谓语表示的动作（go from house to house）是同时发生的，通常放在句子的

  20. The Origin of Christmas Christmas Day-December 25-which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of the Christian religion, is the biggest and best-loved holiday in the United States. According to the Bible, the holy book of Christians, God decided to allow his only son, Jesus Christ, to be born to a human mother and live on earth so that people could understand God better and learn to love God and each other more. "Christmas"- meaning "celebration of Christ "- honors the time when Jesus was born to a young Jewish woman Mary.

  21. Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter, but before they came together, she was found to be with child. Because Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

  22. Although the exact date of the birth of Jesus nearly 2,000 years ago is not known, the calendar on the supposed date divides all time into B.C. (Before Christ )and A.D. ( a Latin phrase, Anno Domini, "in the year of our Lord.")For the first 300 years, Jesus' birthday was celebrated on different dates. Finally, in the year 354, church leaders chose December 25 as his birthday.
