  3. In a perfect world… • Time is on your side…yes it is • We likey to communicate • I don’t even know you, but I love you! • Everything is sunshine and leprechauns

  4. Reality Bites • You may have the time, but your JTE does not • Never there, you’re never there, you’re never, ever, ever, ever there • Trust issues • Things just aren’t like they used to be…

  5. Team Teaching is Hot. • Working together for the sake of the kids • When the right forces are combined, it’s virtually unstoppable.

  6. By the way, what is my job again? What JTE’s EXPECT from ALTs! …scary • ‘Carrier of diseases…nah, culture’ • Natural English please and gestures • Create an ‘international’ atmosphere • Connect with students, wait, that needs to be said? • Take yo’ job seriously slackers! • Correct English mistakes when necessary

  7. What ALT’s EXPECT from JTEs …even scarier • Collaboration • Mutual respect • Constructive feedback Just tell me what you want from me!

  8. Team Teaching:When itDOES NOTWork Teaching Methods Tried and Tested to Fail Teacher sits at the back of the class ALT stands at the back of the class Children go wild Children get beat up by teacher ALT cries Teacher has mental breakdown

  9. When it DOES Work! Let’s watch a VIDEO of a good example of team teaching Ask yourself: • Why is this a good example of T.T? • What do both the ALT and JTE do exactly to make it so? • Can you see yourself teaching in such a way?

Skit making/role playing “1 minute chat” 1 on 1 Q & A with ALT Interview Game with or w/o Cards Pair and group reading Row Game --multiple variations 8 Questions/Warm-Up Use Classroom English “Picturing” and guessing the meaning Evaluate and correct student’s work Reading and Vocabulary Practice/ Repetition --but fun! Visual Aid preparation The bread and butter…REAL, CONCRETE EXAMPLES of how to rock at team teaching

  12. Allow time to PLAN, give FEEDBACK Involve your ALT in class planning It’s okay to be direct Be flexible and open to new ideas Try to use as much English as you can Get to know your ALT Ways to improve as a JTE

  13. Mother’s Little Helper Accept with open arms Allow time to PLAN, and for FEEDBACK English all the time Be Social: with students and JTE’s alike playa Stay active in class Go and explore the TT World! Ways to improve as an ALT
