  2. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching Definition • One teacher is responsible for teaching the content to the students • The other teacher takes charge of providing follow-up activities on related topics or on study skills.

  3. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching Example • An automotive class is learning how to repair a transmission. • One teacher uses the automotive text and diagrams to teach students how to tear apart and rebuild transmissions. • The other teacher teaches a math lesson about ratios and proportions, using gear ratios to illustrate.

  4. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Activity With your teaching partner, brainstorm instructional activities specifically linked to the subject or program you plan to teach where you could use Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching. Discuss times and situations where you have used the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model in the classroom.

  5. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Activity Look at the focus questions. (link) Then watch the video (Link to video) and note the characteristics of the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model. What did you see that indicated this was an example of the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model? Answer the focus questions together.

  6. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Activity As a team, create a brief lesson activity using the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model that you could use in your program. Discuss how to assess the impact of the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model on students.

  7. Section 4: Complementary/Supportive Activity What preparation will you and your partner teacher need to do to implement the Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model in your sample lesson?

  8.
