  1. 4th Grade Electric Circuits A simple electrical circuit is a system with three parts: Electricity flows in a closed path, known as a circuit. battery A source that provides electricity Something that uses electricity bulb Wires to carry the electricity wires Incomplete Circuit (Opened)- does not provide a path for electricity to move through. Complete Circuit (Closed)- provides a closed and continuous path for the electricity to move through. Example: The bulb will light up in a closed circuit. Light! battery

Electromagnetism *when electricity runs through a wire, the wire become magnetic Electromagnet- temporary magnet *As you get farther from the wire with electricity, this magnetic force becomes weaker. *Electromagnetic field- the area of electromagnetism around something carrying electricity. Iron filings You can increase the strength of an electromagnet in two ways: 1- pass more current through the coil of wire 2- increase the number of coils around the bar Or do both wire Electricity is running through this wire

  3. 4th Grade Conductors Insulators *Materials that resist (do not) the flow of electricity *not all insulators have the same resistance *Examples of Insulators: Glass Rubber Oil Asphalt Fiberglass Porcelain Ceramic Quartz (dry) cotton (dry) paper (dry) wood Plastic Air Diamond Pure water *Materials that allow electricity to move through them easily *Not all conductors have the same level of conductivity *Examples of Conductors: Silver Copper Gold Aluminum Iron Steel Brass Bronze Mercury Graphite Salt solutions Dirty water concrete
