  2. HIV/AIDS in Rwanda • Nearly half of Rwanda’s total population is below the age of 15. Many of these youth were orphaned through the 1994 genocide and HIV/AIDS. • Many adult women living with HIV were infected through rape. • Public Health officials report that the incidence of HIV/AIDS among youth is increasing while services and education that caters to them is insufficient. • 3 Approaches: condoms, gender-based violence, sugar-daddy/sugar-mommy

  3. My Research • Qualitative and opinion-based • In-depth interviews with Rwandan doctors, nurses, youth workers and community health workers • All 5 provinces of Rwanda • Example:

Internship with Imbuto Foundation • Imbuto Foundation was founded by the first lady of Rwanda after the genocide and began with a focus on women and children. • Current programs: literacy expansion, Young Rwandan Achievers, education and empowerment of girls, malayikamurinzi, health insurance, malaria prevention and HIV/AIDS prevention and support • My projects: Mountain Movers and VugaUkuli
