  1. Marina RotaruPisa December 2004 Comparison of MC acceptance/efficiency for ttbar single lepton events with central and plug electrons

  2. Parton Level study • From ttbar MC at parton level, selecting events decaying into a single lepton (electron) in the final state we expect: 31.2 % Central68.8 % Plug

  3. To select a ttbar candidate which decays into electron, neutrino and at least 3 jets, we have to require: Standard good central electrons Standard good plug electrons ET>20 GeV ET>20 GeV ||<1.1 1.1 <||<2.8 The missing transverse energy Met>15 GeV At least 3 jets ET>15 GeV ||<2 at least 1 jet b-tagged

  4. ttopel sample The transverse energy of central electron The transverse energy of plug electron 8.9 % of produced events 1.4 % of produced events 55.78 42.38 Plug region adds ~ 14% to the total

  5. Eta of central electron Eta of plug electron

  6. The missing transverse energy The missing transverse energy Central Plug 52.61 54.86 ~ 90% of good lepton pass the missing ET cut in both regions

  7. The transverse energy of the third jet The transverse energy of the third jet Central Plug 33.44 32.06 ~ 67% pass the 3 jets requirement in both regions

  8. The transverse energy of the third jet The transverse energy of the third jet Central Plug 33.84 32.76 50% of events with at least 1 b-tag 53 % of events with at least 1 b-tag

  9. Conclusions • Comparison of central and plug region for electron selection in top search from MC • Plug electrons constitute 14 % of the total sample (they are 17 % of central electrons) • In 600 pb-1 we expect the same top signal as in 100 pb-1 of central electrons • Next step would be: trying to add muons
