  2. Why Journeys? • Journeys build a deep understanding of key domains and topics within a single lesson, across a grade, and across the program. • Each lesson features a domain and topic that tie the week’s text selections together.

  4. The Three Components of Journeys • At the Lesson Level • Across a Grade • Across a Program

  5. At the Lesson Level • Within a lesson, domain and topic are Introduced just before reading the lesson’s anchor text

  6. At the Lesson Level • Within a lesson, the domain and topic are Supported across the lesson through cross-curricular teaching notes at point of use during the reading

  7. At the Lesson Level • Within a lesson, the domain and topic are Expanded on later in the week using another text that complements the anchor text.

  8. At the Lesson Level • Within a lesson, the domain and topic are Extended with domain-specific vocabulary and through text-based Research and Speaking & Listening activities

  20. Activity: Write three Common Core questions. Give the questions to a shoulder partner to find the answers. (3 minutes).

  21. A Week’s Journey • Day 1- Main thing to focus on is the Read Aloud. Shared Writing is done on this day • Day 2- Anchor Text-The 1st read with big book. Shared Writing is done on this day. • Day 3- Anchor Test- The 2nd read is done where you Think Through then Text and dig deeper: How to Analyze Text, Text-Based Comprehension, Your Turn (collaboration), and Guided Writing is done on this day. • Day 4- Paired Text- Using the Big Book students compare Text-to Text. Guided Writing is done on this day. • Day 5- Independent Writing and Extending the Topic • Conventions in Grammar every day.
