  1. SilentInvisiblePredictableSustainable CREST ENERGY KAIPARA Harness energy from coastal marine currents WWW.CREST-ENERGY.COM

  2. OBJECTIVES Generate electricity close to consumer demand Supply Auckland and Northland with power from marine turbines in the Kaipara Harbour Produce and assemble turbine components for local and export markets Evaluate other sites in New Zealand and Asia-Pacific rim

  3. Marine Currents = High Intensity Energy SCALED at 1 MW Wind turbine 1 x 55m diameter Water is non-compressible and 832 times denser than air Solararray 70m x 70m Marine turbines 22 m diameter

  4. Tidal volume: Eight billion cubic meters daily Currents: 2.1 to 2.4 meters per second

  5. LUNAR ENERGY/ROTECH MARINE TURBINE

  6. Pouto Peninsula

  7. Why DC cable transmission? • Cook Straight electrical transmission uses DC cables (1961) • Two small DC cables versus three large AC cables (30 km) • Cables are armour plated and buried over one metre deep into harbour floor • Power ranges from 0 to 200 MW to 0 in 6.5 hours • Charging DC cables does not present a limitation, by comparison to AC

  8. DC-AC converter and substation • Sound-proof building50 x 30 x 10 metres • Underground cables link indoor converter to outdoor substation • Substation fenced25 x 30 metres • Transmission via overhead lines to Wellsford and Helensville (and/or other options)

  9. MAUI DOLPHIN Cephalorhynchus hectorimaui Critically endangered (46 to 280 individuals) Agile, communicative, acute vision and echolocation Confirmed sighting in the Kaipara Harbour

  10. Produce 200 MW Install turbines Secure capital Process consents Consent applications lodged Crest Energy founded Consultation started Developed concept

  11. ADVANTAGES OF MARINE CURRENT POWER GENERATION Large capacity for producing power Predictable energy resource Sustainable and renewable energy Minimal noise No visual impact Low greenhouse gas emissions
