Impact Aid is a Federal Program to Compensate Local Educational Agencies • The Federal Government reimburses school districts that have lost a portion of their local tax base, due to federal ownership of property • Districts that have increased expenditures for federally connected children receive Impact Aid

  3. Impact Aid Basic Support Payments for Federally Connected Properties • Parent resides on Federal Property (e.g., Redstone Arsenal) • Indian Land • Eligible low-rent housing (e.g., Mahogany Row and Sparkman Homes) • Parent is active duty military (e.g., Army or Marines) • Parent works on Federal Property (e.g., TVA, Browns Ferry, Redstone Arsenal, and NASA • Federally connected children with disabilities

  4. Impact Aid Funds Can Be Used for Broad Purposes • Salaries • Textbooks • Computers • Instructional Materials • Afterschool Programs • Remedial and Advanced Placement

Delivery Process of Impact Aid Forms • Impact aid forms are delivered to each school 1 to 2 days prior survey date • Letters and guidelines are delivered to principals and teachers • Teachers will send impact aid forms home with students on September 20th • Impact aid forms are returned to teachers by September 28th • Teachers will forward tabulation of impact aid forms per class to principal’s office by October 4th • Principal will forward a tabulation of impact aid forms for the entire school to Student Welfare by October 12th • Student Welfare will review impact aid forms and compile report • Impact aid report will be forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education on January 31st
