  1. Difference Between CSIR and UGC NET

  2. Introduction There are various differences b/w CSIR NET and UGC NET. Apart from their ultimate motive that these exams are being conducted for Assistant Professorship and JRF, nothing is similar in them. The National Eligibility Tests such as UGC NET, CSIR NET & ICAR NET, all 3 entrance tests are initiated by the University Grants Commission.

  3. CSIR NET is conducted by CSIR itself and UGC NET is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency). CSIR NET is designed for only those students who belong to Science Stream whereas UGC NET is for all another type of courses in India. UGC NET Exam is conducted in July & January whereas CSIR NET is conducted in June & December.

  4. B-Tech, BS, B-Pharm (4 Years Degree) candidates can appear for CSIR NET JRF but in UGC NET Exam, they must have Post-Graduation Degree. There are 3 sections in CSIR NET Exam (Part A, Part B & Part C) whereas the UGC NET consists of 2 Papers (Paper 1 & Paper 2). There is the negative marking in CSIR NET and no negative marking in UGC NET.

  5. The age limit for appearing in CSIR NET is 28 Years (General & OBC) or 33 Years (ST/SC/PWD). For UGC NET, it is 30 Years (General) or 35 Years (ST/ SC/ PWD/ OBC). For both exams, the upper age limit for lectureship is not applicable.

  6. NET Candidates are not eligible for any CSIR/ UGC Fellowshipbut they only can be appointed in Projects as JRF or SRF (after two years of experience). The students qualified from CSIR NET can work under many CSIR Research Labs whereas the UGC NET qualified students can work in many UGC Approved Universities.

  7. The Cutoffs are remaining a bit high for UGC NET Exam in comparison to CSIR NET. The number of appearing candidates is more in UGC NET as compared to CSIR NET. UGC also conducts NET exam for Arts stream separately also, but CSIR doesn't conduct NET for Arts students.

  8. Hope this information will play a crucial role to slake your queries. Thank You!!
