  1. CALICE News • The 2007 beam tests have started! • The Japanese scintillator-tungsten ECAL (SCECAL) • Completed data-taking at DESY during Feb/Mar • Almost 1000 runs (not sure how many useful beam events) • Used AHCAL DAQ and s/w so can be analysed by everyone • Returning equipment to Japan; will take more data there… • …if we can spare a CRC from CERN activities • US DHCAL “slice test” scheduled for FNAL in Jun • Eight layers, ~100cm2 area/layer • Will use same DAQ s/w so analysed in same way • No prospects of ECAL data-taking at DESY this spring • Lack of Si wafers to complete ECAL  News - Paul Dauncey

  2. 2007 CERN beam tests • The CERN 2007 beam test schedule is now fixed • Period 1: Wed 4 Jul – Wed 18 Jul • Period 2: Wed 8 Aug – Wed 22 Aug • Installation will start in early Jun, straight after LCWS • Aim for a period of parasitic muon running from late Jun • Keep equipment in beam line throughout Sep in case more beam becomes available • UK will again ask for apartment and car for whole period • Not yet clear if calorimeters will be complete • ECAL in particular may not have all layers ready • Technical Board review 19 – 20 Apr at DESY • Look at readiness of CERN beam tests (and beyond) News - Paul Dauncey

  3. 2007 FNAL beam tests • Move equipment to FNAL in Sep, start running in Oct • Initially repeat of CERN setup • ECAL, AHCAL, TCMT • Lower energy hadrons available than at CERN; down to 1GeV • Cross check some energies ~10GeV and above • US DHCAL will replace AHCAL when complete • Scheduled for early 2008 • Repeat program to compare the HCALs • Assume run will continue until at least Mar 2008 • European DHCALalso now part of CALICE • May be ready on similar timescale; exact schedule at FNAL very uncertain News - Paul Dauncey

  4. Upcoming meetings • ILC General • LCWS07 at DESY, 30 May  3 Jun; includes an ILC calorimetry R&D review finishing on 4 Jun • Software at LAL, Paris, 2  4 May, with a DAQ s/w meeting on the morning of 2 May • CALICE; general collaboration meetings • Kobe 10 12 May • FNAL ~Oct 2007 • Prague now uncertain • LCUK • LCUK meeting, Fri 13 Apr at RHUL; please register soon! News - Paul Dauncey
