  2. »When trying to find the percent of a number, just remember that the word “of” is represented in math with multiplication. Example: Words: Find 50% of 200. Symbols: x = ½ × 200.

  3. 1500100 5100 151 »Option #1 – Write the percent as a fraction and then multiply. Find 5% of 300. 300 × 1 ÷100 = = ÷100 = 15

  4. »Option #2 – Write the percent as a decimal and then multiply. Find 5% of 300. 0.05 × 300 300 × 0.05 1500 = 15

  5. »Find the percent of each number using either method. 55% of 180 = 99 8% of 60 = 48 50% of 120 = 60

  6. To find 10% of a number move the decimal one place to the left. »Finding percents mentally. Example: 10% of 50 50. = 5 To find 1% of a number move the decimal two places to the left. Example: 10% of 300 300. = 3

  7. To find 50% of a number move divide the number in half (÷2). »Finding percents mentally. Example: 50% of 160 160 ÷ 2 = 80 To find 25% of a number cut the number in half twice. Example: 25% of 400 400 ÷ 2 = 200 ÷ 2 = 100
