  2. Akiak was the lead dog, the first dog in the team.

  3. Alaska Mick and her team raced in theIditarod, a race in Alaska.

  4. Mick’s team was in first place. Then the hard snow hurt Akiak’s paw.

  5. Akiak did not go home. She ran after Mick and the team.

  6. Some men tried to catch Akiak. She ran away.

  7. At the moment Akiak appeared. She showed the other dogs where the trail was.

  8. They won the Iditarod race.
