  2. Content • Introduction of SBATC / CSCS Card • Update on training material being developed to support the card • Implementation of SBATC / CSCS card • CPD opportunity for staff in centres / EV focus on health and safety units

  3. CSCS / SBATC Cards • Red ‘Apprenticeship’ smartcard – designed to reflect the needs of Scottish apprentices – 4 year duration • SBATC logo on reverse of card – verifying indenture

  4. CSCS / SBATC Cards • Both SVQ level 2 and SVQ level 3 apprentices will receive the card • Apprentices commencing off-the-job training in autumn 2014 • Exceptions; • Plant Operatives (CPCS) • Scaffolders (CISRS) • Demolition (CCDO)

  5. CSCS / SBATC Card Initiative • No requirement to undertake Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test • Apprentices will benefit from a CSCS approved Health and Safety training day delivered by centres towards the beginning of training • Apprentice must have experienced training and be fully registered to receive card

  6. Photographs+ Attendance • Photograph required for CSCS card; • Exploring possibility of utilising matriculation card • Photo specifications • Attendance information required • Information uploaded to the SBATC database and accessed by CSCS to produce card • Managing Agent and Centre involvement

  7. Alterations to Registration Process • Registration fee increased to £90 (£75 + VAT) from Monday 30 June 2014 • SBATC to underwrite costs for candidates who are registered before 30 June 2014 for August / September college start • 26 week window available to employers to register apprentice to be reduced to just 8 weeks for all apprentices starting on / after Monday 30 June 2014 • Amendment to the probationary period term of employment

CPD Opportunity • SBF successful in submitting bid to CITB Growth Fund to support changes; • Develop training material content • Deliver Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification to up to 50 college lecturers • Unsuccessful in organising an SMSTS course in Spring for West of Scotland colleges • External verification focus on staff qualifications • How best to organise training courses?

SBATC Apprenticeship Awards • Awards Ceremony in December 2014 • Applications made online at: www.sbatc.co.uk • Four Apprenticeship Categories: • James Birnie Craft Apprentice of the Year • Adult Apprentice of the Year • Civil Engineering Apprentice of the Year • Construction Apprentice of the Year
