The Story Of The Rescue What? A eruption of a volcano. It happened on the 24th of August in 79 AD. When? It happened near the Mount Vesuvius in southern Italy. Where? Tacitus, Pliny the Elder, my mother, Rectina, captain, Pompy, two slaves, I (Pliny the younger) Who? The end? Pliny’s uncle died after the eruption.
