Athletic Paperwork • Physical • Athletic Paperwork • Student/Parent Participation Form • Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Acknowledge & Signature Form • Extracurricular Consent Form (Drug Testing) • Academic • Must pass 5 classes at the completion of each 9-Week Grading Period to be eligible

  8. Attendance • Must be present by 9:00 AM (2nd period) to practice or play in contests • Doctors Appts., Funerals, etc. are exempt • Practices • Scrimmage – 5 to be eligible • Contest – 10 to be eligible (5 if fall sport participant)

  9. The modified School Calendar presents some challenges • Fall Break • Practices, Contests, IHSAA Events • Christmas Break • Practices & Contests • Spring Break • First Week: No Contests • Second Week: Practices & Contests

Athletic Trainer • Jeff Mossburg • His goal is to return student-athletes to play as safely and quickly as possible • Symptoms of concussion: the student-athlete will be removed from contest / practice. Must get a release from physician. • This is an Indiana State Law • Leave inhalers with your coach so there is one always available

  11. Plan on having student-athlete ride the bus to and from games • If there is an emergency, talk to the coach and complete the travel permission form • All forms need to be turned in 24 hours in advance • Forms can be found on the athletic webpage

  12. Abide by all IHSAA and local rules/laws. • Represent Eastern in a positive way. • Understand officials will make mistakes. They’re human. • Encourage all athletes and teams positively. • Foul/abusive language will not be tolerated towards student-athletes, coaches, officials, and other fans. • Zero Tolerance- If an official approaches administration about a fan/parents behavior, that fan/parent will be asked to leave.

  13. Appropriate Concerns to Discuss With Coaches 1. The treatment of your child mentally and/or physically. 2. Ways to help your child improve. 3. Concerns about the behavior of your child. 4. Family concerns that may have an impact on your child and subsequent athletic participation. Issues NOT Appropriate to Discuss With Coaches 1. Playing time 2. Team strategy 3. Play calling 4. Lineups 5. Substitutions 6. Other members of the team or parents

Step 1- Player meets with the coach to discuss the issue/concern • Step 2 - set up an appointment with the coach if not satisfied • Please do not confront a coach prior to, during or after a practice or contest (24 Hour Rule) • If not satisfied, set up an appointment with the Athletic Director • Misinformation and rumors are one of biggest challenges we face • PLEASE CONTACT ATHLETIC OFFICE WITH CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS

  15. The “Limited Contact Program” replaces the “Open Facility Program” • Allows coaches to work directly with student‐athletes two days a week for two hours a day. The restriction of working with only two athletes was removed. • There are three distinct seasons when limited contact may occur for out of season sports. • Fall – September 2nd - October 19th • Winter – December 9th – February 8th • Spring – April 6th – May 16th

  16. Conditioning may be conducted every day of the week (excluding Sundays). • Exception: Students in team sports who participate in a Limited Contact Program which immediately precedes that team sports’ season may continue to participate in the Limited Contact Program until that team sports’ first official practice date.

  17. $30 for Students • $30 for Senior Citizens • $75 for Adults • $175 Family

Encourage attendance at strength training & skill development opportunities • Support the coaches and their philosophy • Your student-athlete will do better and the team will be better. • Encourage multi-sport participation. • Develops better student-athletes all-around. • Have a Positive Attitude • It is a huge commitment and sacrifice on both the student-athletes’ and parents’ part in order for our teams to be successful. We thank you for all your time and energy to make Eastern Athletics successful now and in the future.
