The Charge The Reason Multiple groups saw a need for teachers who are prepared to teach all areas of STEM as well as integrative STEM courses The STEM Advisory Council requested an implementation model for creating a STEM endorsement or endorsements • Includea description of content/pedagogy coursework AND/OR content/pedagogy competencies AND/OR clinical/field experiences that lead to STEM endorsement(s)

  3. STEM endorsement committee Membership Science, Math, and Technology Education practitioners and administrators Representatives from higher education, the Department of Education, and the Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE)

  4. Process • Committee met in person • Gathered feedback at the March STEM summit • Draft copy of proposal sent to each institution of higher education • June webinar to gather feedback about the proposal • Endorsement recommendations were submitted to the BOEE. T • Endorsements under public review and notice before returning to the board for potential adoption.

  5. Committee Recommendations The creation of five STEM-related endorsements: • K-8 STEM teaching endorsement • 5-8 STEM teaching endorsement • K-12 STEM specialist • Engineering teaching endorsement • Engineering Career-Technical endorsement.

  6. Engineering Endorsements

Engineering as an endorsement added to a Teaching License Engineering (1) Completion of 24 semester hours in engineering coursework (2) Methods and strategies of STEM instruction OR methods of teaching science or math. Engineering as a Career and Technical License (1)Completion of a baccalaureate degree in engineering. (2)Demonstrated career and technical competence in engineering by completion of a minimum of 4,000 hours of practical, hands-on experience in engineering. (3)Coursework in foundations of career and technical education, planning and implementing courses and curriculum, methods and strategies of STEM instruction, and assessment of STEM programs and students.
