  2. THE SIGNIFICANCE For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures. 1Cor 15:3-4

  3. THE SIGNIFICANCE Yes, and we are found false witnesses… your faith is futile…you are still in your sins…those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished…we are of all men the most pitiable. 1Cor 15:15-19

  4. THE SIGNIFICANCE Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead 1Pt 1:3

  5. THE SIGNIFICANCE Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs…you have taken and crucified…whom God raised up…because it was not possible that He should be held by [death]. Acts 2:22-24

  6. THE DEATH • THE HOW DID JESUS DIE? • He was scourged…Mk 15:16 • Crown of Thorns…Mk 15:17 • Could not carry His cross…MK 15:21 • He was crucified…MK 15:25 • He died six hours later…MK 15:25, 34 • Then, His side was pierced…JN 19:34

  7. THE BURIAL • WHERE/HOW WAS JESUS BURIED? • In Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb…MK 15:43-47 • Wrapped in linen…MK 15:46 • Rolled a stone against the door…MK 15:46 • Jews guarded the tomb…MATT 27:62-65 • The soldiers sealed the stone…MATT 27:66

  8. THE RESURRECTION Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself Jn 20:6-7

  9. THE RESURRECTION But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen. Matt 28:5-6

  10. THE WITNESES He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. 1Cor 15:6-8 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him, "Rabboni!“ Jn 20:16

  11. THE MARTYRS • Peter was murdered in Rome • Paul was murdered in Rome • Andrew was murdered in Greece • James was murdered in Jerusalem • Thomas was murdered in India • Matthias was murdered in Jerusalem

  12. THE MARTYRS • Matthew was murdered in Ethiopia • Jude was murdered in Edessa • Bartholomew was murdered in India • Stephen was murdered in Jerusalem • Timothy was murdered in Ephesus

  13. THE NAYSAYERS • Stolen body • Wrong tomb • Hallucination • Swoon Theory • Legend The guards? Really? 515 people Doctors disagree Only with Christ

  14. CONCLUSION • Christ died, buried, and rose again • 515 witnesses saw Christ alive afterwards • Many of them died for rather than recant • Alternative explanations are assumptions
