  2. What is it to You! Take a couple minutes with the neighbor at your table and write a list of items you use everyday which are byproducts of the Horticulture Industry. Keep things of items until I say STOP!!

  3. Horticulture Is… –noun • the cultivation of a garden, orchard, or nursery; the cultivation of flowers, fruits, vegetables, or ornamental plants. 2. the science and art of cultivating such plants.

  4. Flower Carpet Watch this video of a flower garden being designed and transformed at the Biltmore estate.

  5. Horticulture Terms • Use your KRS sheet to complete what you think about each of these terms. If you know them check the appropriate box and write YOUR definition. If you don’t know then check other boxes. • You will get a chance to get with others later, so do this on your own please!

  6. Floriculture • –noun • the cultivation of flowers or flowering plants, esp. for ornamental purposes.

  7. Olericulture • –noun • the cultivation of vegetables for the home or market.

  8. Pomology • noun • the science that deals with fruits and fruit growing.

  9. Landscaping/Nursery • Nursery: a place where young trees or other plants are raised for transplanting, for sale, or for experimental study. • Landscape: the layout of the young plants grown in a nursery operation

  10. Biology • The science of life or living matter in all its forms and phenomena, esp. with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure, and behavior.

  11. Zoology • The science or branch of biology dealing with animals.

  12. Botany • The science of plants; the branch of biology that deals with plant life.

  13. Agronomy • The science of soil management and the production of field crops.

  14. Forestry • the science of planting and taking care of trees and forests. • the process of establishing and managing forests; forestation.

  15. Annual • Plants that only live for one growing season (ex. Beans, corn)

  16. Biennials • Plants that live for two growing seasons.

  17. Perennials • Having a life cycle last two or more years.

  18. Evergreen • Plants that remain green year round

  19. Deciduous • Plants which lose their functional leaves during a season.

  20. Project! • Divisions Brochure: You are to create a brochure which is pleasing to the eye. It must contain 6 panels, 5 of which are of the horticulture brochures, and 1 is about you. • Each panel must have at least 5 pics. And some way to define the word the pics are describing. • Creativity counts! (4pts per def., 4pts. per label, 1pt. Per pic, and 5 pts creative.) TOTAL PTS: 75 pts
