  2. APhA Mission Statement • The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) provides information, education, and advocacy to help all pharmacists improve medication use and advance patient care.

  3. APhA Vision Statement • Pharmacists and patients working together to improve medication use and health.

  4. A little APhA History • Founded in 1852. • 1st national pharmacy organization in America. • Resolved that all pharmacists should get PharmD degrees 50 years ago.

  5. APhA-ASP Mission Statement The mission of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists is to be the collective voice of student pharmacists, to provide opportunities for professional growth, and to envision and actively promote the future of pharmacy.

  6. A little APhA-ASP History • Began unofficially in 1921. • Became an official academy in APhA in 1954. • 26,000 student pharmacists are members. • Only student pharmacist organization to have a meeting specifically for students (MRM).

  7. Our local chapter of APhA-ASP • Largest HSOP organization • Patient Care Projects – chance to practice skills on actual patients without being graded! • Socialize with all classes • Purchase books at a discounted rate • Liability insurance for 4th year rotations • Dues are $25.00 • State Pharmacy Organization • Lobbies Alabama House of Representatives and Senate on pharmacy issues • Works with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy on Pharmacy issues • Great opportunity to learn from and network with pharmacists in Alabama • Optional to join – dues are $20.00 • Dues are $35.00 APhA American Pharmacists Association APhA-ASP Academy of Student Pharmacists Auburn Chapter APhA-ASP APA Alabama Pharmacy Association

P1 Liason • Link between the officers and the P1 class • Report to executive committee on issues with the P1 class • Report to the P1 class APhA-ASP activities • Attend all executive committee meetings (4-5 per semester) • Early chance for a leadership role at HSOP • Nominations open with this meeting and end on Tuesday, September 5 at 5:00 pm. • If interested, send an email to Rebecca, maxsora@auburn.edu.
