    5. North State Independence High School 2002/03 Changed from a program in the Shasta Union High School District to a school One large classroom with students earning credit from packets of work Little or no consistency between teachers

    6. North State Independence High School 2003/04 Teachers utilize hand-me-down-textbooks instead of packets Teachers begin to develop common curriculum State testing of 9th through 11th grade combined in a large gym with rental tables and chairs

    7. North State Independence High School 2005/06 Move to new campus with 4 classrooms, a computer center, and office Cal-SAFE program housed on campus Augmented mathematics classes Enroll 50 plus students from a failed independent study school

North State Independence High School 2006/07 Counselor and Assistant Principal added to staff Augmented classes in math, science, computer applications, CAHSEE ELA & Math Prep and art Received a High Priority School Grant totaling $480K for four years Receive Six Year WASC Accreditation State testing on campus in small groups with teachers

The Road to Orientation 85% of our Teaching Staff attended Literacy Boot Camp and AB466 Fast Track Reading Materials training last summer Leadership Team decided that we wanted all of our students to have these literacy strategies in their tool boxes First 4 weeks of school, all returning and new students had an orientation class All incoming students have a 4 week orientation class that start as soon as a new session starts

Orientation Classes Four 90 minute augmented classes 6 hours of total instructional seat-time Students have an Orientation Packet to complete between their intake appointment and their first meeting with their supervisorial teacher to provide a basis for attendance credit No more than 25 students in a class are provided with group and individual activities as well as independent projects

    15. Reading Strategies Focus is on the Pre-reading, During-Reading and Post-Reading process of our extended style of Cornell Notes Saves students time & effort Provides clear & useful tool Highlight website tools Review Literacy Strategies for Reading using graphic organizers

    16. Writing Strategies Give students “the inside track” on what they need to be able to be successful Learning styles/Multiple Intelligences Writing strong paragraphs Writing strong essays Review of Cornell Notes for other uses such as movies, etc Peer Evaluations of Cornell Notes
