  1. Electrowetting Displays The display uses small electric currents to manipulate a grid of colored oil droplets which make up the picture. The voltage applied to the oil changes the wettability of the substance. This causes the oil to bead up or spread out, letting out more or less colored light. • Possible Applications: • Disposable electronic media. (newspapers, magazines, posters) • Adaptive Camouflage • Dynamic Street Signs • Screens for outdoor applications • Transparent Glass Displays (windshields, goggles, adaptive dimming, augmented reality) • Advantages: • Durable • Flexible • Low Power Consumption (equal to e-ink) • Fast enough for color video • Can be applied to various surfaces. • Very cheap The biodegradable and energy efficient properties could be environmentally beneficial. However, more disposable electronics could further contribute to the e-waste problem. Could help bridge the digital divide and expand advertising opportunities (cheap technology can be applied to cell phones, laptops, and packaging).
