  5. Effort leads to success!Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference!

  6. Lunches • Please review if your child is bringing or buying each morning. The lunch menu is on line. (It saves a lot of time and confusion.)

  7. Weekly Specials • Please be sure your child is prepared for the appropriate special.

  8. Supplies • A list was sent home in August. • Thank you for sending in your child’s supplies! • Please check with your child on what needs to be replenished.

  9. Agenda Your child has been provided with an agenda that will be used on a daily basis for the following: • Recording Homework Assignments • Parent/Teacher Communication • What color card did your child earn today? Please initial the agenda AND reading calendar each night to ensure assignments are being completed and that you are being informed.

  10. Take Home Folder • “Left at Home” and “Bring Right Back” side • Student papers and handouts

  11. Homework • Nightly: Read 20 minutes, complete any unfinished school work, calendar AND agenda signed, practice math facts, study spelling • Monday: Copy spelling words into agenda • Tuesday: Write 5 spelling sentences • Wednesday: Spelling sentences Thursday: Study spelling, Estimation Station (if it’s your turn) • Friday: Progress Report signed, read for a total of 30 minutes, library books

  12. Homework • Routine: same place and time • Questions: ask your child what needs to be done as you review the agenda • Habit: work in a quiet place • Set Tone: lay ground rules and stick to them • Feedback: check homework and be positive about what’s done

  13. Weekly Progress Reports • Sent home every Friday • Please review and discuss • Please sign and return on Monday • It is considered a homework assignment

  14. Behavior Management System • The “blue card” day! Blue card means your child has had a good day and followed all classroom rules. Green card means your child has broken one rule or has not complied with a request. (Consequence - miss 5 minutes of free time) Yellow card means your child has broken two rules or has not complied with two requests. (Consequence - miss 10 minutes of free time) Red card means your child has broken three rules or requests. (Consequence – miss out on free time, write down what happened and what can be done differently in the future) • Catch them being good! Earn extra free time minutes and other additional privileges

  18. Please talk to your child each night about the reading. Be positive. Record the number of minutes read and initial the calendar. Fill out the reading log with the date, title, and pages read. Students are expected to read 20 minutes Monday - Thursday and a total of 30 minutes over the weekend. Please be honest. Your child is expected to keep the book of his/her choice in the baggie. The book in the baggie should come to school and go home each day. Book Log/Calendar

  20. The focus of the program is phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The program adjusts to meet the needs of your child so please don’t assist. The goal is to complete level 14 by the end of the year.

  24. Spelling • Words are given on Mondays • Sentences are due on Thursdays • Tests will be given on Fridays • 15 words that follow a pattern • There are 2 bonus words

  33. You’re welcome to send a treat to school on or around your child’s birthday. We have 21 children. Any day is fine, just let me know when you’ll be sending something in! • If planning an out of school party, please do not bring invitations to school.

  34. Parties • Our class will be celebrating different holidays, as well as other festivities, throughout the year. Sign-up sheets are available at Open House if you’d like to donate.

  37. Parents as Partners Education is a journey, not a race. Children should enjoy school while working hard for their education. Anything worthwhile requires time and effort. Therefore we need to work together for the benefit of our children. Children should be encouraged to do their best at all times. If they are doing their best, the rest will fall into place, thus creating a successful and enjoyable year. Thank you for taking the time to go over all of the expectations and requirements of third grade. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
