  2. About Miss Cremer • This is my 7th year teaching. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade. • I went to KU and received my Bachelors degree in 2006 and my Masters in 2010. • I am the oldest of 3 girls. My sisters are 27 & 25. • I love to travel, play softball, cook, sew, and cheer on my Jayhawks!

  3. Reading • Outside reading goal set on reading log. • New reading series this year! Wonders • Every day we will read a new story and work on skills. • Language Arts, writing, and spelling are integrated in this new program. • We will have reading workshop daily. Small group instruction.

  4. Math • Daily Math will be homework/morning work. • Weekly Math weekly homework due Friday • Weekly grades will come from Weekly Comprehension and Concept Quizzes • Chapter tests • Online enVision math series. • Quick Checks for homework • Math Workshop

  5. Language Arts • We will teach grammar: nouns, pronouns, verbs, subjects, predicates, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections • We will have a weekly paragraph of the week. • Students will research and write reports, one will be on an American hero. • We will teach and practice the 6 traits of writing.

  6. Science • Topics include: measurement, weather, Energy, Motion, Health, Astronomy and inquiry. • Grades will come from science experiments and content knowledge. • I teach Science to both classes. • At the end of each unit, there will be a test. • Hands on experiments and activities mixed with content, vocabulary, and readings.

  7. Social Studies • Hero Report & Assembly- November-February • Colonial days - November • US history from Native Americans and Explorers, to the Revolutionary War and our independence. • Mr. Monaghan teaches Social Studies.

  8. Spelling • Differentiated Spelling – 3 lists based on pretest on Monday. • 30 Points are due on Friday • Point sheet can be found online. • Tests will be on Friday. Students will give each other the tests, and I will grade them. • Spelling lists will be in planners

  9. Homework • Homework will be assigned daily. The SMSD guideline is 50 minutes of daily homework for 5th graders. Please note this means solid time on task ~ not interrupted or sporadic effort. Homework is recorded in the student planner each day.  Assignments will also be posted online. • Long-term projects such as reading logs and projects often require some daily work over a period of time to complete by the assigned due date. Attempting to complete the night before always causes stress and is not recommended.  • When a child is absent due to illness, assignments will be sent home if requested.  Please call or email early in the day so assignments can be prepared. SMSD policy states that students have 2 days to complete make-up work for each day of absence due to illness.  Advance assignments are generally not prepared for unscheduled vacations from school.

  13. Progress Reports • IGPro is the gradebook system • E-mail reports • Great for updates- I send out once I have entered grades, weekly/bi-weekly • Printed copies will only be at mid-quarter for those who do not get email reports.

  14. Email -- aprilcremer@smsd.org • If you did not receive the email from me last Friday, please check to see I have entered the correct email! • I use email a lot for quick reminders because it saves paper and won’t get lost in backpacks!

  15. Positive Behavior Intervention Supports PBIS provides clear expectations for Staff and Students while providing explanations of what behaviors look like at Tomahawk Elementary School.

  16. Our focus will be on three behavior expectations. Be SAFE Be RESPECTFUL Be RESPONSIBLE

  18. Lessons teaching specific building wide expectations will be taught and reinforced throughout the year. Students will earn Tiger Tokens or punches for demonstrating positive behaviors. Any staff member can recognize positive behavior. Tokens earned by students will be placed in daily classroom and weekly/monthly school-wide drawings (rewards).
