  2. The Good Shepherd’s Provision • Life Abundant & Life Eternal • ‘I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness’ (10.10b). • ‘I give them eternal life, and they shall never die’ (10.28a).

And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. • 1 Peter 2.24-25 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

  5. The Good Shepherd’s Leadership • Knowing & Listening to Jesus’ Voice • I am the good shepherd. As the Father knows me and I know the Father, in the same way I know my sheep and they know me. (10.14) • My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (10.27)

  6. The Good Shepherd’s Leadership • Following Jesus • …the sheep hear [the shepherd’s] voice as he calls his own sheep by name…and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. They will not follow someone else; instead, they will run away from such a person, because they do not know his voice (10.3-5).

  7. Who will follow Jesus? • Many of them were saying, ‘He has a demon! He is crazy! Why do you listen to him?’ But others were saying, ‘A man with a demon could not talk like this! How could a demon give sight to blind people?’ (10.20-21) • Then the people again picked up stones to throw at him (10.31) ≈ Not following • And many people there believed in him (10.42) ≈Following
