  1. Article: Timeless Issues Wondering How to Handle Peer Pressure? Read on! Stepping into the uncharted territories of a new university can be volatile since we are either too busy with our course or a bit too concerned about our inter-personal relations with the peers. It is tough to say no to your peers. Peer pressures can beeither negative or positive, and you need to analyze and respond accordingly. Peer pressure stands negative when people want you to involve in things you don’t like for the sake of being accepted. There are specific tips to handle peer pressure which can otherwise be detrimental for your mental health. Learn to say “no” The most common way in which you can respond actively to peer pressure is by saying NO. Standing up can be difficult but saying “No” is equally important. Saying “No” at the very beginning of the discussion will save you from future troubles. While navigating a hostile space, if it ever gets to that, can be difficult especially when you are new, you can always take the help at your disposal. Address your concerns to the anti-ragging cell and don’t shy away from help. Change the topic It is one of the best advice for youth to change the topic of conversation if you are not comfortable answering the questions. When your peers get back to the topic, go ahead and decline it if necessary. For example, if someone asks you to drink at a party, then change the subject by asking about the DJ or the dance floor. Give an excuse and leave the place If you feel shy to respond to your peers with a No, then prefer leaving the discussion with an excuse. Do not sound rude and make a good excuse for leaving the scene. For example, make an excuse for studies and leave the discussion. By this way, you will not become part of their planning, and you do not have to sound rude as well. Take your own decisions The general advice for youth when it comes to peer pressure to hold your own stances. You might be opinionated but that doesn’t mean it should denigrate your position. It is imperative to understand that you shouldn’t compromise your position, not at least at the expense of your mental health. Pre Plan a response Planning is not escaping, it will help you evade situations, for instance: if you are being offered drugs or being asked to do something uncanny or illicit, you can always call in sick or give them an excuse which can help you evade. Excuses which mostly pertain to medical conditions can help you evade a volatile situation since no one wants to be responsible clinically. That’s one way of saying no, but often is the case that a simple “no” becomes a “yes” through manipulation and persuasion.
