October 9, 2013 - Springboard 1.11 Starting Embedded Assessment 1 Homework: Complete your rough draft of your personal narrative Objective: Students will go through the steps of the writing process to write a personal narrative about an incident that changed them. Warm Up (in your composition book) Date your notes, write down the objective Get your Springboard book and turn to pg. 31

  2. Turn to pg. 31 in SB Let's read the assessment requirements together. You will be working on steps 1-8 today.

  3. Let's start by making a checklist of what you need in order to be successful... write these in your composition book!!!

  4. What person point of view should this be written in? First person point of view

  5. It must have... an engaging opening - a good hook

  6. What is the where and when of a story called? identify setting and have setting details

  7. What is the plot also called? Sequence of events with beginning, middle and end

  8. It must have a problem, also known as... conflict - either internal or external

  9. It must... convey character's feelings

  10. And have them talking, also known as... dialogue

  11. Describe things using... descriptive and sensory details

  12. Must use... vivid action verbs

  13. Includes a statement of significance...in other words... tells why this experience was important

  14. Describe things using... descriptive and sensory details

  15. Explains how the incident has... changed you

  16. Your rough draft will need to include all of the following... Narrated in first person point of view Setting details Who was involved? What was your life like before the incident? What was the incident? How did the incident start? What were you doing, thinking, feeling? Who else was there? What were they saying, doing? Add details so reader can experience this event with you. How did the incident end? How has your life changed since the incident? What have you learned, discovered or realized from the incident? A good hook and title
