  1. I Am the Cheese By: Robert Cormier 1977 Amanda Snow

  2. I Am The Cheese is about Adam Farmer, a young boy, who is on a journey throughout life in search of who he really is. Adam, who is on the way to Rutterburg, Vermont from Monument, Massachusetts to see his father who is in the hospital. Along his journey Adam has a lot of time to think. With all this thinking, he finally realizes who he really is.

  3. “It’s never knowing what’s going to happen, that’s the worst thing”(171). • I have heard this so many times. My dad is very sick and we never know when anything is going to make him worse. The doctors have repeatedly told us this. We really never know when anything is going to happen. We just have to live our lives just as normal as we can until something does happen. For the better or the worse.

  4. Ilooked at myself in the mirror before I left, the full-length mirrors on the side of the closest door in my parent’s bedroom upstairs. I inspected myself in the mirror, the crazy hat and the old jacket, and I knew I looked ridiculous. But what the hell, as Amy says, philosophically.”(p6) • I have definitely had my fair share of these moments. Like when my parents made me wear those frilly dresses to church when I was little. I still have these days a lot. Sometimes when I’m coming to school I think I can’t believe I look like everyone else. Or my sport uniforms. Wow some of them have been unique.

  5. “We are all mortal,” Dr.Dupont says, his voice gentle. “We must all die someday.” (227) • Right before my Granny died the doctors told us this. I have to agree, God put us on the earth to live our lives to the fullest and then one day go back to him. I know I will probably hear this again one day but only time will tell.

  6. But I sometimes wonder what’s more important-what I find out about myself or what you find out about me.(136) I have had this thought many times. Especially the first day of high school. I was worried about what other people are going to think of me and not what i think about myself. We should all just worry about ourselves.

  7. "Whenever you are on the edge of revealing something important in your past, you stall, voicing suspicions of my questions because you are afraid, because you are reluctant to face your past.”(139) I have many moments that I don’t want to face my past. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just the past. We all can relate to this. People ask me all the time about my past and I constantly tell them it’s the past. Let it stay there.

  8. “That’s right, honey, they’ll steal anything that’s not tied down. There used to be a saying, They’ll steal anything that’s not tied down, by these they’ll steal anything, even if it is tied down”(153) • I can relate to this in many ways. About a couple years ago people stole all of my bacsketballs and then came back the next night and tried to steal my goal. About a year ago people broke into my dad’s truck and stole all the change out of it.

  9. THEMEThe theme of I Am The Cheese is never give up on something you are trying to achieve. If you want it you will push yourself unto you get it. • This is how I am during softball. If I want to win or impress a coach, I do what I can to get it done. I give my all to get my things done. When I set my mind to do something I do it until I accomplish it.
