  2. THE PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY SOLAR

  3. The sun is another main source of energy on earth. • It is believed that the sun temperature is about 15 million Kelvin. • SOLAR RADIATION The released energy makes its way to the sun’s surface (photosphere) and then to outer space in the form of electromagnetic radiation (electric wave and magnetic field). • Electricity is generated when solar radiation is directed to a voltaic photocell. • The electrical energy is limited and small in quantity depending on the amount of radiation.

  4. Electricity cannot be obtained in the dark. • Solar energy is used, e.g , in calculators and watches. • Bigger electricity generation systems that use solar panels to collect heat by heating liquid in the panel tubes. • Liquid will turn into high pressure steam. • The steam is then conveyed to the turbine to turn the generator, thus generating electricity. • Batteries are installed into the system to retain the electrical energy when there is no solar (at night).

  5. Batteries are only functional in the absence of the sun. • All the control processes are made automatic. • Usually, solar panel are installed on rooftops. • Solar energy can also be used to supply hot water in a building. • Hot water produced is collected in a special tank and is released when required.
