UNION COUNTY GIS GIS Background: · Aerial photos done in 1999 · Six basic layers digitized on the photos · 3 Towns 1”=60’ scale and 19 towns 1”=100’ GIS Data Storage ·SQL Server in the County Administration Building · Each town has a database · Each database has the data for the town · We use Intergraph’s Geomedia Professional Software

How to connect and share the data • Union County has 21 Municipalities • Each town has a small engineering dept. • Each town has parcels and other engineering drawings in AutoCAD format • Most towns do not want to invest in GIS software • Without connecting to the towns County GIS will not succeed.

  4. AutoCAD Map to the Rescue · We recommend that towns upgrade to AutoCAD Map • Towns must use AutoCAD Map to transform the old drawings. • Towns can map parcels and attach the MS Access tax data by using Map • Once Parcels are mapped they can connect to our GIS by converting the data

  5. AutoCAD Map to the Rescue · We exchange the data with towns using Shape file format. • Towns can upload the changes using the same process. • Always in State plane coordinate system • Towns can access Aerials from our server using AutoCAD Map • Smooth transition without any third party

  7. Advantages of using AutoCAD Map · Affordable for the towns • Every town already has AutoCAD • All AutoCAD commands will work • Engineers can design in AutoCAD • Very easy to learn • Very easy export and import • Easy to use images with world files

  8. This is how you define a Link Between the Access Database And the drawing. Select a field from the database. AutoCAD Map will communicate With database using this field. The link will be established.

  9. Advantages of using AutoCAD Map · Once the data is attached you can search by property name or block and lot number • Link their system to the county, using Map, which puts them directly into our GIS system • Database based searches – For example, Map allows us to query for all property assessed over $300,000

  10. Import and Export process · Towns can import and export data in all common formats • Imported data will have the Access database with it • Updating and sharing is very easy because Map keeps the coordinates. • Map can attach parcel, sewer line or manhole data in Access or Excel format database • AutoCAD technicians can do this process

  11. Once you have complete attaching data to parcels you can Export to a file in GIS format.
