  1. “A Road Not Taken” ROBERT FROST

  2. Let’s Read! • We’re going to read first, then answer some questions. • What are the differences between the two roads? • Is the author happy with his choice? • Do you think it was a difficult decision? • What does the poem mean?

  3. Next Set • What words does the author use to avoid repeating “the road” (for example “it”?) • Look at this line from the poem. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by… Why does the author repeat the word “I” twice? What effect does it have on the poem?

  4. Last Set • Do you like the poem? • Many people in America consider this their favorite poem. Why do you think so? • A moral is something that you can learn from a story, a poem or an experience. Does this poem have a moral? • Think of some major decisions a person makes in their life. Make a list with a partner. • Have you had to make any major decisions? Did you take the road less traveled by?

  5. Assignment • Write a poem based off of either Sandburg’s “Chicago” (a poem dedicated to a place you like) or Frost’s “A Road Not Taken” (A time where you had to make a decision).
