  2. Main ‘beef’ over land • US gov. made several treaties w./ N.A. tribes to define Indian lands. • But- increasing numbers of Americans moved through & sometimes settled on, N.A. turf • Treaties often ignored / broken by gov.

  3. N.A.’s fought U.S. for decades. - ultimately overwhelmed by the superior #s / weapons tech. • But…a couple x’s N.A.’s whooped U.S. troops – most famous Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana.

  4. June 25, 1876 Civil War vet. George Custer attacked 2000 Sioux & Cheyenne w/ few hundred men • Custer & company entirely wiped out
