  1. Sundry • Higgs: Aiming for publication ~ 31 Jan • CMS and ATLAS plan for 3 papers (H4l, H2, combination) • CMS aiming for PRL, ATLAS aiming for PLB  mgt. to make this coherent • Combination between CMS/ATLAS to take place after results final. Probably around ~Moriond… • Wed: General Meeting pw is CMS2012 (not GUT…) • Source of vacuum problem at 18 m from CMS found… • Radiography found bad mechanical connection btw RF fingers and insert • Next couple of pages have pictures • Plan: replace the connection under “Neon overpressure” • This procedure should lead to quick turnaround in vacuum recovery • If all goes well, ~1 week delay in startup • If all goes badly (need to bring beam pipe to air) delay until ~1 June... • Work ongoing to understand luminosity at CMS • HF gain drift corrections likely to increase luminosity by 8%... G. Rakness (UCLA)

  2. This and following 2 pages from Austin Ball (CERN) presentation at… https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=169383 RF fingers & spring very fragile RF fingers spring flange

  3. Connection should look like this bellows flange spring RF insert RF fingers

  4. X-rays on 20-12-2011, 18 m right (z-) Vertical view Overlap of ~ 6 mm, RF fingers INSIDE RF insert. Estimated aperture reduced to 36 mm Non Conform flange RF insert RF fingers… INSIDE RF insert…

  5. Documenting CSC synchronization procedures In progress at… https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/CSCsynchronizationDocuments • History and overview • What does it mean to be synchronized? • Procedure to determine the online synchronization parameters of the CSC • Parameters which must be set prior to measurements • Specify trigger primitive conditions • Set the Time-Of-Flight (TOF) parameters • Delay the signals to CFEB • Measure ALCT-TMB communication parameters • Measure the BC0 parameters • Measure the L1A delay parameters • Global and Local trigger paths • Measure the L1A receipt for CFEB, ALCT and TMB readout • Measure the DAV parameters • Align CLCT with ALCT • Set CFEB TOF values • Measure CFEB-TMB communication parameters • Greg, really clean up the rest of this crap, and finish this documentation... • If something changes, where in the procedure do you have to start? • Some details about the CSCTF Sector Processor • Additional links G. Rakness (UCLA)

  6. Preparing for CMS running in 2012 • I have assembled the list of Ops Managers • https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/OnlineWBContactList and https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/OnlineWBContactListDetails1 • These are the folks I’ll contact when there is a problem • Example: For CSC, this is Misha and Evaldas • 30 Jan: First CMS Run Meeting of 2012… G. Rakness (UCLA)

  7. Global schedule for 2012 • 16 Jan: Water cooling back • 17 Jan: Power on sub-detectors • … shifters still needed to allow 24/7 operation… • 19 Jan: Able to turn on CSC HV • 23-27 Jan: Test DDU/DCC firmware • Jason will be at CERN during this week… • 30 Jan-3 Feb: New ALCT firmware/measure timing • I’ll be supervising Misha to do this job • ~8 Feb: Begin testing SEU recovery (?) • 15-16 Feb: Mid-week global run • 22-23 Feb: Mid week global run • 23 Feb: Magnet on (?) • 27 Feb - 7 Mar: continuous cosmic running • 9 Mar: begin commissioning with beam • 30 Mar: stable beams (?) G. Rakness (UCLA)

  8. To do • Reading • ARC for Contact Interactions this week • More Run Coordination stuff • Prepare short talk for upgrade meeting next week • Think about how to track problems in subsystems • Documentation • ALCT/CLCT muonic timing • Analysis • Finish neutron note with Jay • Re-sort gain values into backward/forward chambers types for Armando and Oleg • Contact Antony about dE/dX progress… G. Rakness (UCLA)
