  1. STEWARDSHIP As Children of God we have many titles • Children of Light • Redeemed • Saints • Priests • Soldier • Strangers • Pilgrims • Servants (never a slave) • One title is STEWARD 1 Corinthians 4:1-2Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. Luke 12:42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

  2. STEWARDSHIP What is a Steward - An official who controls the domestic affairs of a household, supervising the service of his master's table, directing the domestics, and regulating household expenditure; kin to GUARDIAN • Saved or Lost you are a manager of God’s Affairs • Humanismis the Enemy and is what keeps us from thinking right. As a Christian you are going to give an account of What God has given you not just your money. • What God has given you is TIME TALENT TREASURE When people hear stewardship they normally think of money but it is much more than that.

  3. STEWARDSHIP Faithfulness is the requirement of a Steward • I want to do what God wants with His stuff… it belongs to Him… He entrusted me with it… I have an obligated responsibility to handle it His way. Your life is made up of your TIME TALENT TREASURE Time - what time do we have for the Lord? • How much of our time do we use for the Lord? • You may not have much money but you have time that you can give of yourself. • Going to church • Reading our Bibles • Praying • Helping others • Do we foolishly spend our time on things that don’t matter and do not help anyone? • Staying up all night watching T.V. • Social Networking – Facebook, twitter • Playing video games • Internet • Skating • Staying at a friends house all night so you can’t go to church • Hanging out at the movies and malls

  4. STEWARDSHIP Talent - what talents do you have that God could use? • All of your abilities and gifts are given you by the Lord. • Everything you can do better than someone else is because of the Lord. • Music • Singing • Being kind to people • Building things and drawing Treasure - all the money you have ever received and will ever receive was given to you by the Lord. • What do you spend your money on?

  5. STEWARDSHIP Money is a touchy subject because it is many people’s God. Matthew 6:24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

  6. STEWARDSHIP It is very foundational in the Christian life that you understand you have what you have because God gave it to you. 1 Corinthians 4:1-7Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, andstewardsof the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required instewards, that a man be found faithful. 3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.God is using the Apostle Paul to say -I don’t care what you think of me because I’m not going to stand before you one day. 4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. 6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. 7 Forwho maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive?now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

  7. STEWARDSHIP Everything you have comes from God The World belongs to God – It is His Creation Psalm 24:1"The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." John 1:3"All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made." Stewardship starts with humility and admitting that all you have comes from God. God gives it to you and then gives you dominion over it. • Your family • Your spouse • Your kids • Your job • Your time • Your life Everything about you.

  8. STEWARDSHIP One day you are going to give an account of your life • TIME TALENT TREASURE Deuteronomy 8:10-18When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. 11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, … Lest …thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; …Who led thee… Who fed thee… And thou say in thine heart,My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. 18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God:for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, …

  9. STEWARDSHIP Matthew 25:14-30For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, anddelivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. RECKON - To enumerate serially or separately; to name or mention one after another or in due order; to count the details 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold,I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him,Well done, thou good and faithful servant:thou hast been faithfulover a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

  10. STEWARDSHIP God uses the word STEWARD in relationship with money Luke 16:1-15And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward;and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. 3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? 6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. 8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. 9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. 10 He that is faithfulin that which is least isfaithfulalso in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If you are faithful, God gives you more. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

  11. STEWARDSHIP 90% of all your problems could be solved by two things. Schedule – organization of your time Budget – organization of your money How we handle our treasure determines how we are trusted by God with other things. THEREFORE WE MUST BUDGET OUR TREASURE to properly manage it. TO PROPERLY BUDGET WE MUST BEGIN WITH THE TITHE.

  12. STEWARDSHIP THE TITHE COMES FIRST Proverbs 3:9‑12 ‑ Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits ofall thineincrease: 10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. 11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. There are two types of increase: 1. From nothingto something. - This is what this verse is talking about. 2. From expenses to profit.

  13. STEWARDSHIP THE TITHE IS HOLY BECAUSE IT BELONGS TO GOD Leviticus 27:32 ‑ And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, thetenth shall be holyunto the LORD. THE TITHE COMES FIRST THE TITHE IS HOLY BECAUSE IT BELONGS TO THE LORD

  14. STEWARDSHIP THE TITHE IS A REMINDER THAT WHAT YOU HAVE COMES FROM GOD God gave you everything you have. Deuteronomy 14:22‑23 ‑ Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. 23) And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks;that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

  15. STEWARDSHIP THE TITHE IS NOT BASED ON THE LAW The tithe was only reinforced by the law but was happening before the law was given. Genesis 14:20 ‑ And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. Genesis 28:22 ‑ And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee. How did Abraham or Jacob know to tithe when he didn’t have a Bible?

  16. STEWARDSHIP JESUS SAID EVERY PERSON SHOULD TITHE; Even Lost People Matthew 23:23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith:these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Luke 11:42But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God:these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

  17. STEWARDSHIP Malachi 3:6For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. 7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? 8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: forye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithesinto the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourerfor your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

  18. STEWARDSHIP The storehouse is the local New Testament church 1 Corinthians 16:2 ‑ Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by himin store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. God says to bring it to the store or storehouse every first day of the week. Where is the storehouse? 2 Chronicles 31:10 ‑ And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings intothe house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left isthis great store. The STOREHOUSE is the local New Testament Baptist Church. a. Not TV or radio channels. b. Not gas used to come to church. c. Not giving to someone else who has a need.
