  1. STEWARDSHIP 1 Peter 4 :10-11 The 1st Principle of Stewardship

  2. Introduction • I have been asked to discuss the subject of stewardship. • What is it ? • Why is it important ? • How does it affect my life ? • Is this a topic for a sermon or a lecture by a financial adviser ?

  3. Why study this subject? God commands it – 1 Peter 4:10-11 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  4. Why study this subject? It is taught in the Bible –

  5. Why study this subject? You can not separate your possessions from your obedience and worship to God. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

  6. What is “Stewardship”? Steward - Greek – oikonomos – oiko = house, estate ; nemo = arrange, manage Steward – to oversee, manage a house, to arrange estate or affairs Stewardship = the work or task of managing the house or affairs of another From Greek comes English - Economy

  7. Does it apply to me? Financial problems – largest factor in marital stress and divorce In USA – Average credit card debt = $8,400 70% carry a debt of $6,000 to $7,000 5 billion credit card solicitations were sent by mail or through telemarketers – easy credit, transfer debt, 0% interest

  8. Does it apply to me? 20% of Americans have items stored in one of USA's 40,000 storage facilities This does not count – attics, basements, garages, storage buildings at your home 1.78 million file for bankruptcy each year 81% of collage students carry 4+ credit cards with average balances of $4,134 each

  9. Does it apply to me? 50% of college graduates are in debt up to $40,000 1/3 can not make the first payment on their student loans

  10. Does it apply to me? American spend MORE on legal gambling than on groceries 90% of preachers have no retirement fund Some have opted out of Social Security. A very bad mistake and a fraud. In order for a preacher to opt out of SS – he must lie on the form he submits to the government.
