  3. The Book Of RevealingPart #2

  4. When the 14.5 million lbs. Space Shuttle took off, it rose very slowly. • But within one minute, its speed was at 1,300 MPH, and within another minute, its speed went to more than 3,200 MPH, burning 11,000 lbs. of fuel per second!

  5. Jesus Gave Us The Outline Of The Book Of Revelation In Revelation 1:19

  6. The Things Which Thou Hast Seen • (Chapter 1) • The Things Which Are • (Chapter 2 - 3)

  7. Let’s Stop Right There For A Quick Refresher!

  8. “The Things Which Thou Hast Seen”

  9. We are living in the age or Dispensation of Grace, sometimes called the CHURCH AGE. • You and I are experiencing the time of God’s grace being extended to the whole world! • This time makes up “the things which are”

  10. Jesus Dictates Messages To Seven Real Churches, While At The Same Time, Addressing Seven Different Types Of Churches And Churches Ages…

  11. Chapters 2 & 3 Are Really The Last Message Of Christ To The Church! • As far as importance, these two chapters in Revelation are the Christians most important, because they are the last mention of the Church and have at least four different applications…

  12. A Local Application • These where seven actual churches in Asia Minor (present day Turkey). • A Church Wide Application • Every church has issues that the Lord addresses in these seven letters.

  13. A Personal Application • Each letter addresses issues in the life of every single believer down through the church age. • A Prophetic Application • The chronological order of the letters seem to match certain time periods throughout church history.

  14. The Things Which Thou Hast Seen • (Chapter 1) • The Things Which Are • (Chapter 2 - 3) • The Things Which Shall Be Hereafter • (Chapter 4 - 22)

  15. The Things Which Shall Be Hereafter • Revelation 4:1 • AFTER THIS* I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, COME UP HITHER, and I will show thee things which must be HEREAFTER*. • * Greek “meta tauta”

  16. Just how many millions Perrotta doesn’t specify, but it can’t have been too many, because the phones still work and Starbucks still dispenses coffee by the grande. Nor do all (or even most) of the missing qualify as Christians; those raptured away include Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews and even atheists.

  17. “When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they’re supposed to do about it. Three years later, the new HBO drama series THE LEFTOVERS is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.”

  18. A Very Important Change Has Taken Place At Revelation 4:1 • The Focus Of The Rest Of The Book Of Revelation Is Taken OffThe Church And The Believer And Is Now Placed OnThe Jewish Nation Of Israel And Its People!

  19. A Very Important Change Has Taken Place At Revelation 4:1 • In Matthew, (the Gospel devoted to the Jewish people), there are 92 references to the Old Testament; • In Hebrews, (the Epistle devoted to the Jewish people), there are 102 OT references; • But in Revelation, there are 285 OT references! • This helps demonstrate the Jewish nature of the rest of the book of Revelation after 4:1.

  20. A Very Important Change Has Taken Place At Revelation 4:1 • Suddenly, a Jewish theme along with Jewish terminologies begin to appear starting after 4:1 • We immediately read terms like "the Lion of Judah" or "the Root of David“, which are Jewish • OT forms such as “saints”, “holy people” are used rather than the NT form; “church”. • We are later introduced in chapter 7 to 144,000 Jewish converts, 12,000 from each of the 12 Tribes of Israel, clearly Jewish

  21. A Very Important Change Has Taken Place At Revelation 4:1 • The events of the seals, trumpets, and vials are a partial repetition of the plagues upon Egypt and are for the same purpose – that of judging Gentiles for their mistreatment of Israel. • The main reason and the concentration of the Great Tribulation is two-fold… • 1) The judgment of the nations of the world • 2) The time of preparation for the full and complete restoration of Israel

  22. A Very Important Change Has Taken Place At Revelation 4:1 • The Great Tribulation is known as “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jer. 30:7; Gen. 32:28) • This 7 year time span is known as Daniel's 70th Week, which relates to God’s dealings with Israel and Jerusalem only (Daniel 9:24,27). • The focus of the actual physical return of Christ and the Battle of Armageddon (Rev. 16:13-16; 19:11-21) both surround the rescue and the protection of the nation of Israel.

  23. This Places Us In A Change Of Position And Perspective On Future Events • In chapters 1-3, the words “church”, “churches” are used 20 times! • However, after chapter 3, the church is NEVER ONCE MENTIONED AGAIN until you get to the closing statements of Jesus in Revelation 22:16, when Jesus reminds John that these things were to testify to the churches. • Something VERY OBVIOUS has caused the church to go missing as reflected in 4:1…

  24. The Second Coming Of Christ

  25. The Great Catching Away

  26. Christ comes for His own He comes in the air Only His own see Him Precedes “great tribulation” Afterwards Satan remain free Christ comes with His own He comes to the earth Every eye shall see Him Concludes “great tribulation” Afterwards Satan bound The Two Events: “Second Coming Of Christ” And “The Catching Away” Compared

  27. Is followed by the revealing of the Antichrist and his attempt to rule the world An event filled with hope and comfort Is followed by the destruction of the Antichrist and Christ begins His rule on world An event filled with judgment and woe The Two Events: “Second Coming Of Christ” And “The Catching Away” Compared

  28. Catching up of all believers Imminent, could take place any moment, no signs Never mentioned in OT Includes believers only No catching up of any one Follows definite predicted series of events; many signs Repeatedly mentioned in OT Includes everyone The Two Events: “Second Coming Of Christ” And “The Catching Away” Compared

  29. Jubilation on the other Rejoicing on the other Crowning on the other Thanks on the other Worship on the other Judgment on one hand Rage on one hand Cursing on one hand Threats on one hand Woes on one hand The Two Events: “Second Coming Of Christ” And “The Catching Away” Compared

  30. One popular theory attacking the rapture is the claim that the concept of the rapture was invented by John Nelson Darby in the 1830’s, and was based on a vision that a fifteen-year old girl named Margaret Macdonald had…

  31. But just because John Darby made this teaching popular does not mean that he was the first person to teach the rapture. • No more than Martin Luther preaching salvation by grace through faith was the first to teach this great doctrine.

  32. But, John, the word “RAPTURE” doesn’t even appear in the Bible!

  33. Well, neither does the word “Bible” ever appear in the Bible! But we still say Bible!

  34. If that’s the standard, then we shouldn’t be able to say Trinity, Grandfather, Homosexual

  35. The word “rapture” is derived from the Latin word “raptus,” also related to the Latin word “rapiemur,” the word for “caught up” translated in 1 Thess. 4:17 in the Latin Vulgate.

  36. The Latin Vulgate is a Latin translation of the Bible from late 300’s AD; the work of Jerome

  37. The fact is, we have confirmation that the doctrine of “the catching up” was taught at least 1500 years BEFORE Darby and has been faithfully preached about throughout church history from sermon records going back to the 300’s!

  38. Here is an excerpt from a sermon by Ephraem of Syria (306-373 AD), entitled, “Sermon on the Last Times, the Antichrist, and the End of the Word.”

  39. “For all the saints and the elect of God are gathered, prior to the tribulation that is to come, and are taken to the Lord lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of our sin.”

  40. It’s important to remember that the Catholic Church dominated a great deal of church history. • The Catholic Church persecuted, tortured and killed over 100 million “non-Catholic” Christians, burning many of them at the stake with their Bibles and their books chained about their necks.

  41. Many of the early church documents were destroyed to stop the so-called “heretics” • The Catholic Church rejects that justification is by grace alone, through faith in Christ alone, they reject the teachings of the rapture, tribulation, the antichrist, etc. and hold to “replacement theology”

  42. Consider these examples of “Rapture Theology” being taught long before Darby…

  43. In 1744, a Baptist minister named Morgan Edwards spoke of a Rapture prior to Christ’s coming to the Earth in his sermon, in which he said…

  44. “The dead saints will be raised, and the living changed at Christ’s “appearing in the air” (1 Thess. 4:17)…will He and they abide in the air all the time? No: they will ascend to paradise, or to some one of those many “mansions in the Father’s house” (John 14:2), and disappear during the foresaid period of time.” • Morgan Edwards, 1744

  45. In his 1738 commentary on the New Testament, Philip Doddridge speaks of the Rapture as imminent. • In his 1748 commentary on the New Testament, John Gill also speak of the Rapture as imminent.

  46. James Macknight (1763) and Thomas Scott (1792) taught that the righteous will be carried to Heaven, where they would be secure until the time of judgment was over.

  47. In his 1687 book, titled, “Approaching Deliverance of the Church”, Peter Jurieu taught that Christ would come in the air to rapture the saints and return to Heaven before the battle of Armageddon.

  48. Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter what these men taught, what is important is what THE BIBLE teaches!

  49. Like ALL truths found in God’s Word, we must faithfully teach and preach it from generation to generation…
