A short Robots timeline • 270 BC - An ancient Greek engineer named Ctesibus invented organs and water clocks with movable figures. • 1495 - Leonardo da Vinci designed and possibly built the first humanoid robot. The robot was designed to sit up, wave its arms, and move its head via a flexible neck while opening and closing its jaw. • 1773 - Pierre and Henry Louis Jaquet-Droz invented the first automaton that could write. • 1865- John Brainerd creates the Steam Man apparently used to pull things. • 1893 - Dr. Achibald Campion builds the Boilerplate which is a prototype soldier.

  3. 1938- Westinghouse creates ELEKTRO a human-like robot that could walk, talk, and smoke. 1961- UNIMATE becomes the first industrial robot in use. It was used at the General Motors factory in New Jersey. 1963 - The Rancho Arm is created and is the first computer controlled artificial robotic arm, it was designed as a tool for the handicapped. It was developed at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, California. 1996- Honda creates P2, the first major step in creating their ASIMO. P2 is the first self-regulating, bipedal humanoid robot.

  4. 1997- NASA's PathFinder lands on Mars. It is a robotic rover that sends images and data about Mars back to Earth, while it roams the planet. 2005- The Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), creates HUBO, and claims it is the smartest robot in the world. This robot is linked to a computer via a high-speed wireless connection, the computer does all of the thinking for the robot.

Personal and Domestic Robots • The purpose of invention and use of domestic robot is to liberate people from unpleasant or dangerous tasks such as vacuuming, lawn mowing or cleaning pool and give them more liberty and security; moreover, domestic robots can be use of personal entertainment such as companion robots.

  6. Robot Vacuums • The idea behind robot vacuums is to liberate people from unpleasant daily chores and free up their time. And majority of people clean their house is boring and time consuming. This is where robot vacuums were invented. • Robot vacuums change the way we clean • Robot vacuums has ability to navigate safely around obstacles while cleaning the floor.

  7. AIBO(Artificial Intelligence Robot) • AIBO was invented by SONY, AIBO was named after “Friend” in Japanese language. • AIBO can express six different types of emotions and has ability to learn from experience. • Also people can monitor their house when they are not home or watch their children.

  8. Humanoid Robot • A humanoid robot is a robot with overall appearance, based on that of the human body. • Humanoid robot is a autonomous robot because it can adapt to changes in its environment or itself and continue to reach its goal. • Humanoid robot has same ability as AIBO but its more advanced, such as avoiding harmful situations to people, property and itself.

  9. Domestic Robots in the future • The history of domestic robot is short, but there will be a robot its friendly and can process every house chores in the future.
