Abdul-Muttalib • Undeniable Noble Family Lineage • Abu Sufyan said, Caesar's messenger found us somewhere in Sham so he took me and my companions to Ilya and we were admitted into Caesar's court, He said to his translator. 'Ask them who amongst them is a close relation to the man who claims to be a prophet." Abu Sufyan added, "I replied, 'I am the nearest relative to him…. He then said to his translator, 'Ask him what kind of family does he belong to.' I replied, 'He belongs to a noble family amongst us. • Caesar said to his translator, 'Say to him: I ask you about his lineage and your reply was that he belonged to a noble family. In fact, all the apostles came from the noblest lineage of their nations. (Al-Bukhari) • قال ابن عباس : فأخبرني أبو سفيان : أنه كان بالشأم في رجال من قريش قدموا تجارا ، في المدة التي كانت بين رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وبين كفار قريش ، قال أبو سفيان : فوجدنا رسول قيصر ببعض الشأم ، فانطلق بي وبأصحابي ، حتى قدمنا إيلياء فأدخلنا عليه… فقال لترجمانه : سلهم أيهم أقرب نسبا إلى هذا الرجل الذي يزعم أنه نبي ، قال أبو سفيان : فقلت : أنا أقربهم إليه نسبا ، قال : ما قرابة ما بينك وبينه ؟ فقلت : هو ابن عمي ، وليس في الركب يومئذ أحد من بني عبد مناف غيري ، فقال قيصر : أدنوه ، وأمر بأصحابي فجعلوا خلف ظهري عند كتفي ، ثم قال لترجمانه : قل لأصحابه : إني سائل هذا الرجل عن الذي يزعم أنه نبي ، فإن كذب فكذبوه ، قال أبو سفيان : والله لولا الحياء يومئذ ، من أن يأثر أصحابي عني الكذب ، لكذبته حين سألني عنه ، ولكني استحييت أن يأثروا الكذب عني فصدقته ، ثم قال لترجمانه : قل له كيف نسب هذا الرجل فيكم ؟ قلت : هو فينا ذو نسب ….. فقال لترجمانه حين قلت ذلك له : قل له : إني سألتك عن نسبه فيكم فزعمت أنه ذو نسب ، وكذلك الرسل تبعث في نسب قومها البخاري

8. Nobility of Lineage • Negates the Prophet’s need to elevate himself socially by claiming that he is a Messenger. • Arabs respected Noble Lineage and it helps people to listen to his call.

10. Death of Abdullah • Died while on a trip to Shaam (Levant) or Yathrib, at the age of 25. • Buried in Yathrib (Madina) • Aaminah was pregnant. • Left as inheritance 5 Camels and a Servant named Barakah, Umm Ayman.

The Birth of an Orphan • Born in Rabi Al-Awwal on a Monday • The 9th • The 12th • 571 CE (April) “The year of the Elephant” • “إن لي أسماء . وأنا محمد . وأنا أحمد . وأنا الماحي الذي يمحو الله بي الكفر . وأنا الحاشر الذي يحشر الناس على قدمي . وأنا العاقب الذي ليس بعده أحد . “ • الراوي: جبير بن مطعم  -  المحدث: البخاري  و مسلم • Narrated Jubair bin Mutim: • Allah's Apostle said, "I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; I am Al-Hasher who will be the first to be resurrected, the people being resurrected there after; and I am also Al-'Aqib (i.e. There will be no prophet after me)."

14. The Orphan • Anas b. Malik reported that Gabriel came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upo him) while he was playing with his playmates. He took hold of him and lay him prostrate on the ground and tore open his breast and took out the heart from it and then extracted a blood-clot out of it and said: That was the part of Satan in thee. And then he washed it with the water of Zamzam in a golden basin and then it was joined together and restored to it place. The boys came running to his mother, i. e. his nurse, and said: Verily Muhammad has been murdered. They all rushed toward him (and found him all right) His color was changed, Anas said. I myself saw the marks of needle on his breast. (Muslim) • أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أتاه جبريل صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو يلعب مع الغلمان . فأخذه فصرعه فشق عن قلبه . فاستخرج القلب . فاستخرج منه علقة . فقال : هذا حظ الشيطان منك . ثم غسله في طست من ذهب بماء زمزم . ثم لأمه . ثم أعاده في مكانه . وجاء الغلمان يسعون إلى أمه ( يعني ظئره ) فقالوا : إن محمدا قد قتل . فاستقبلوه وهو منتقع اللون . قال أنس : وقد كنت أرى أثر ذلك المخيط في صدره . الراوي: أنس بن مالك  -  المحدث: مسلم

17. The Shepherd • Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah (Al-Bukhari and Muslim): • We were with Allah's Apostle collecting Al-Kabath at Mar-Az-Zahran. The Prophet said, "Collect the black ones, for they are better." Somebody said, (O Allah's Apostle!) Have you ever shepherded sheep?" He said, "There has been no prophet but has shepherded them. " • كنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نجني الكباث ، وإن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال : ( عليكم بالأسود منه ، فإنه أطيبه ) . قالوا : أكنت ترعى الغنم ؟ قال : ( وهل من نبي إلا وقد رعاها ) . الراوي: جابر بن عبدالله   -  المحدث: البخاري  و مسلم

18. The Shepherd • Narrated Abu Huraira (Al-Bukhari): • The Prophet said, "Allah did not send any prophet but shepherded sheep." His companions asked him, "Did you do the same?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, I used to shepherd the sheep of the people of Mecca for some Qirats." • ما بعث الله نبيا إلا رعى الغنم . فقال أصحابه : وأنت ؟ فقال : نعم ، كنت أرعاها على قراريط لأهل مكة الراوي: أبو هريرة   -  المحدث: البخاري

The Protection of Allah • Allah protected the Prophet from: • Worshiping Idols • Sinful Behavior • ما هممت بقبيح مما كان أهل الجاهلية يهمون به إلا مرتين من الدهر ، كلتيهما يعصمني الله – تعالى – منهما ، قلت ليلة لفتى كان معي من قريش بأعلى مكة في أغنام لأهله يرعاها : أبصر إلى غنمي حتى أسمر هذه الليلة بمكة كما يسمر الفتيان ، قال : نعم ، فخرجت [ فجئت ] أدنى دار من دور مكة ، سمعت غناء وضرب دفوف ومزامير فقلت : ما هذا ؟ ! قالوا : فلان تزوج فلانة ، لرجل من قريش تزوج امرأة من قريش ، فلهوت بذلك الغناء وبذلك الصوت حتى غلبتني عيني ، فما أيقظني إلا مس الشمس فرجعت إلى صاحبي قال : ما فعلت ؟ فأخبرته ، ثم قلت له ليلة أخرى مثل ذلك ففعل ، فخرجت فسمعت مثل ذلكن فقيل لي مثل ما قيل لي ، فلهوت بما سمعت حتى غلبتني عيني ، فما أيقظني إلا مس الشمس ، ثم رجعت إلى صاحبي فقال : ما فعلت ؟ قلت : ما فعلت شيئا ، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : فوالله ما هممت بعدها بسوء مما يعمل أهل الجاهلية حتى أكرمني الله – عز وجل – بنبوته الراوي: علي بن أبي طالب  -  خلاصة الدرجة: حسن  -  المحدث: ابن حجر العسقلاني

The Trip to Shaam • Accompanied Abu Talib in a commercial caravan to Shaam. • The story of Bahira, The Monk. • خرج أبو طالب إلى الشام ومعه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في أشياخ من قريش فلما أشرفوا على الراهب يعني بحيرى هبطوا فحلوا رحالهم فخرج إليهم الراهب وكانوا قبل ذلك يمرون به فلا يخرج ولا يلتفت إليهم قال فنزل وهم يحلون رحالهم فجعل يتخللهم حتى جاء فأخذ بيد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال هذا سيد العالمين وفي رواية البيهقي زيادة هذا رسول رب العالمين بعثه الله رحمة للعالمين فقال له أشياخ من قريش وما علمك فقال إنكم حين أشرفتم من العقبة لم يبق شجرة ولا حجر إلا خر ساجدا ولا يسجدون إلا لنبي وإني أعرفه بخاتم النبوة أسفل من غضروف كتفه ثم رجع فصنع لهم طعاما فلما أتاهم به وكان هو في رعية الإبل فقال أرسلوا إليه فأقبل وغمامة تظله فلما دنا من القوم قال انظروا إليه عليه غمامة فلما دنا من القوم وجدهم قد سبقوه إلى فيء الشجرة فلما جلس مال فيء الشجرة عليه قال انظروا إلى فيء الشجرة مال عليه قال فبينما هو قائم عليهم وهو ينشدهم ألا يذهبوا به إلى الروم فإن الروم إن رأوه عرفوه بالصفة فقتلوه فالتفت فإذا هو بسبعة نفر من الروم قد أقبلوا قال فاستقبلهم فقال ما جاء بكم قالوا جئنا أن هذا النبي خارج في هذا الشهر فلم يبق طريق إلا بعث إليه ناس وإنا أخبرنا خبره إلى طريقك هذه قال فهل خلفكم أحد هو خير منكم قالوا لا إنما أخبرنا خبره إلى طريقك هذه قال أفرأيتم أمرا أراد الله أن يقضيه هل يستطيع أحد من الناس رده فقالوا لا قال فبايعوه وأقاموا معه عنده قال فقال الراهب أنشدكم الله أيكم وليه قالوا أبو طالب فلم يزل يناشده حتى رده وبعث معه أبو بكر بلالا وزوده الراهب من الكعك والزيت الراوي: أبو موسى الأشعري  -  خلاصة الدرجة: فيه غرابة  -  المحدث: ابن كثير   • التقاؤه بالراهب ، بحيرا الذي تفرس فيه ورأى معالم النبوة في وجهه وبين كتفيه ، فلما سأل أبا طالب : ما هذا الغلام منك ؟ قال : ابني ، قال : ما ينبغي أن يكون أبوه حيا ! قال : فإنه ابن أخي مات أبوه وأمه حبلى به . قال صدقت ، ارجع به إلى بلدك واحذر عليه يهود . الراوي: أبو موسى الأشعري  -  خلاصة الدرجة: صحيح  -  المحدث: الألباني

The War of Al-Fijar • “Al-Fijar” means violations of Sanctity • War between Qays ‘Ailaan (Hawazen, Ghatafan, Thaqif) and Quraysh • Violations of the Sanctuary of Mecca and The Sacred months • Reported that Prophet helped his uncles if collecting arrows • Exposed to the strategies of combat fighting • 15-20 years old

The Treaty of Noblemen • “Hilf al Fudhool”: The Treaty of Nobelmen • Al-’Aas bin Wa’el (Father of Amr bin Al-’Aas) refused to pay for merchendise of a stranger in Mecca who had no protection. • Hashem, Asad, and Zuhra vowed to be on the side of Justice and Fairness and to defend the weak in Mecca regardless of tribal loyalties. • لقد شهدت في دار عبد الله بن جدعان حلفا ، لو دعيت به في الإسلام لأجبت ، تحالفوا أن يردوا الفضول على أهلها ، وأن لا يعد ظالم مظلوما الراوي: محمد و عبدالرحمن بن أبي بكر  -  خلاصة الدرجة: صحيح  -  المحدث: ابن الملقن   • شهدت حلف المطيبين وأنا غلام مع عمومتي ، فما أحب أن لي حمر النعم وأني أنكثه الراوي: عبد الرحمن بن عوف  -  خلاصة الدرجة: صحيح  -  المحدث: ابن جرير الطبري  

24. The Merchant • The Truthful, The Trustworthy. • Khadijah bint Khuwayled entrusted him with her trade to Shaam accompanied by her servant Maysarah • Muhammad’s honesty, noble character and good manners was reported to Khadijah.

25. Khadijah • Khadijah was a widow of honor and wealth in Quraysh from the tribe of Asad. • Married twice: • Atiq bin ‘Aabed Al-Makhzumi • Abu Halah bin Al-Nabbash (Son: Hind bin Abi Halah) • Many proposed to Khadijah after that but she declined.

27. Marriage to Khadijah • Khadijah proposed to Muhammad through her friend Nafisah. • Muhammad proposed through his uncles Hamza and Abu Talib. • They married two moths after his return from Shaam trip. • Dowry of 20 camels. • The Prophet was 25 years old and Khadijah was 40 years old.

The world at the time of The Prophet’s Birth عن عياض أن رسول الله قال: ”....وإن الله نظر إلى أهل الأرض فمقتهم ، عربهم وعجمهم ، إلا بقايا من أهل الكتاب.....“ رواه مسلم Sahih Muslim, Book 040, Number 6853: 'Iyadh bin Himar reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him), while delivering a sermon one day, said: “……..And verily, Allah looked towards the people of the world and He showed disgust, for the Arabs and the non-Arabs, but with the exception of some remnants from the People of the Book..."

Samura reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: I recognize the stone in Mecca which used to pay me salutations before my advent as a Prophet and I recognize that even now.

Preludes and Signs عن عائشة أم المؤمنين أنها قالت : أول ما بدىء به رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من الوحي الرؤيا الصالحة في النوم ، فكان لا يرى رؤيا إلا جاءت مثل فلق الصبح ، ثم حبب إليه الخلاء ، وكان يخلو بغار حراء ، فيتحنث فيه - وهو التعبد - الليالي ذوات العدد قبل أن ينزع إلى أهله ، ويتزود لذلك ، ثم يرجع إلى خديجة فيتزود لمثلها ، حتى جاءه الحق وهو في غار حراء الراوي: عائشة  -   المحدث: البخاري   • Narrated 'Aisha: • The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira.
