  1. On-Track Chicago’s Focus on Ninth Grade Triggers Climb in High School Graduation Rates

  2. Ninth grade on-track rates improved most when schools acted on real time data about student absences and course performance. Note: This figure represents first-time freshmen not in charter or alternative schools without a special education status.

  3. In 2005, only 22 CPS high schools had on-track rates above 70%. By 2013, nearly 90% of CPS high schools had on-track rates above 70%. Note: This figure represents first-time freshmen who are not receiving special education servicesand are enrolled in schools that were open in both spring 2005 and spring 2013, respectively.

  4. On-track rates improved for all groups of students, but African American males improved the most. Note: This figure represents first-time freshmen not in charter or alternative schools without a special education status. Years refer to the spring of the school year. Entering class compositions are of the 2013 class. Approximately 7% of freshmen are missing EXPLORE scores and are not included in EXPLORE sub-groups.
