ZMF Overview • Zimbabwe Miners Federation(ZMF) is the brainchild of Ministry of Mines and Mining Development whose birth was marked in 2003 to represent and contribute to the development ,growth and empowerment of the artisanal and small scale miners in the country. • Affiliates-It has 26 associations that ratified the constitution

I INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES: RHETORICAL QUESTION:- Should it be difficult or rather easy to invest in Zimbabwe? • To invest in Zimbabwe because small scale miners do face challenges related to capital funding. • The indigenization issue – The Minister has presented that regulations gazetted provide for flexibility where necessary. • The ministry of Investment Promotion have postulated that Zimbabwe: to ensure security of investment • Multilateral Investment Guarantee agency • Overseas investment co-operation • International Convention of the Settlement of Investment Dispute. • BIPPA (Bilateral Investment Promotion & Protection Agreements.)

Investment opportunities cont • Opportunities also exists in the beneficiation of some of these minerals eg cutting and polishing of diamonds ,jewellery manufacturing and chrome smelting • There is the availability of educated and very effective and competent labour • Properly structured small scale mining body-ie Zimbabwe Miners Federation

  10. SMALL SCALE PARTICIPATION IN THE MINING INDUSTRY • About 25000 registered small scale miners • 500 000 who are involved in artisanal and small scale mining in Zimbabwe • 153 000 are women and children

  11. Production History • Despite the low production at an individual level, the often large number of units involved means that at a national scale ,total production can be significant thus equaling or exceeding that of large miners In 2004 Small Scale Miners produces 60% of the 21tonnes

Chrome activity in Zimbabwe • Chrome ban up-liftment-June 2015 • ASM involvement-Creation of SPV • Who is SPV-MMCZ,RBZ,Mines and ZIMRA • SPV to cater for asm operations with the focal point being a chrome dpt created at mcz • Chrome mining split into the north ,middle and south dyke • The minister has announced that negotiations are underway for release of ground by Zimasco and Zimalloys.(owning 99000 h/a)

  16. Tantalite • Currently stable at the moment • Semi precious minerals-ruby,tourmaline,aquamarine etc –Limited buyers for these commodities

  17. Investment impediments • Volatile commodity prices ,chrome ,gold and uncertain economic outlook • Urge for investors to have a shift towards long term growth and value creation

  18. Conclusion • There are quite a number of strategic minerals mined by small scale miners in Zimbabwe. A data of organized miners is available for joint venture partnerships. • Dont be skeptic
