Homework Folders • Go home every day • Please check and return • Graded work and school informational papers will come home on Mondays Agenda Book • Each student has one to write their homework and important dates down. Canvas • Each teacher will have own Canvas page, as well as our 3rd grade team page. • Content updates will be sent through Canvas Announcements

HOMEWORK • Students will have homework daily. • Monday - Thursday. • You do not need to sign their agenda books. • Each night students will have: • Reading for at least 20 minutes • Students will be expected to write the title of the book they are reading in their agenda books. • Math • Other assignments as needed

  12. WHY 20 MINUTES?

HOMEWORK • If a student does not complete his/her homework, he/she will get a homework stamp in his/her agenda book. • This amount of missing homework assignments correlates to a learning behavior grade earned for the quarter. • If your child is missing 5 or more homeworks in a quarter you will be contacted by his/her teacher.

  15. GRADING • This year students will earn letter grades on their report cards. • Exceeds Expectations = A • Meets Expectations = B • Progressing Toward Expectations = C • Not Meeting Expectations = D

  16. GRADING • Grades are determined by: • Independent Work • Quality and Accuracy • Average at the End of the Quarter

  19. CLASS DOJO What is Class Dojo? • Class Dojo helps teachers positively encourage students in class, easily communicate with parents, and empower students by promoting positive feedback. • This year it will be implemented school-wide. Demo Class

  21. LANGUAGE ARTS Reading • Independent Daily Reading (IDR) • Guided Reading • Flexible Groupings • Student Choice • Building Stamina Language Arts in 3rd Grade Writing • Being a Writer • Building stamina • Mentor texts for grammar and language mechanics • Building Vocabulary

MATH Groupings: • Students are grouped in math based on their instructional levels. • As a team, we consistently look at a variety of student data and make changes if necessary. • Keep in mind, student placement goes beyond computational and fact fluency. We also look to see if students demonstrate: • Standards for Mathematical Practices • Risk taking, initiative, problem solving, flexible thinking skills, etc. Structure: • Small Group Rotations • Routines • Hands-On Tasks & Problem Solving • Writing in Math

  23. CONTENT SOCIAL STUDIES Why do communities change? What is our place in this place? How are we connected? How can we change our community? Each quarter students will be instructed in Social Studies, Science, and Health. These are this year’s units. SCIENCE Life Cycles & Traits Weather & Climate Forces & Interactions Plant & Animal Survival HEALTH Social & Emotional Health Safety & First Aid Disease Prevention & Control Tobacco, Alcohol, and Other Drugs
