  2. Equation One • Average Velocity = displacement/time • v+u/2 =d/t • d = t(v + u)/2 • use s instead of d (stadio is latin word for distance) • s= t(u+v)/2

  3. Equation Two • v = u + at

  4. Equation Three • v2 = u2 + 2as • This comes from equation one and two • from equation two t =(v-u)/a • Substitute for t into equation one • s = t(u+v)/2 • becomes s = (v-u)/a x (u+v)/2 • becomes s = (v2 – u2)/ 2a becomes • v2 = u2 + 2as

  5. Equation Four • s = ut + ½ at2 • This comes from equation 1 and 2 • From equation one v=u+at • Substitute for t in equation two • S = t(u + (u + at))/2 • Multiply out the t’s, • S= (ut + ut + at2)/2 = (2ut + at2)/2 = ut + ½ at2

Questions • Equation One: An Oldsmobile Intrigue starts at 30.0m/s and finishes at 60.0 m/s for 25.0s, calculate the distance traveled. • Equation Two: A Chevy Blazer accelerates from 0.0 – 60.0 m/s in 6.0 seconds (a) Calculate the acceleration • Equation Three: A BMW 2002 TII has an acceleration of 20.0 m/s2. If it starts at rest, calculate its final speed after 12.0 meters. • Equation 4: A Volkswagen Jetta, has an acceleration of 15.0 m/s2, calculate the distance traveled after 16.0 seconds, if starting from rest. • Homework: p69q9-12 NG
